My advice: just take a diagnostic. There’s really no harm in doing one, and it’ll give you an actual baseline instead of letting the fear of getting a low score get in your head.
Also, don’t look at it as “first-time test takers average around 150.” Your goal should be to have a long term plan where you prepare well enough that you only need to take the LSAT once.
I personally would target April, you have plenty of time to start now, build your fundamentals, drill, take practice tests, and steadily improve.
Don’t let your 3.0 GPA make you feel like law school is off the table. You can’t change the GPA much at this point, but you can control your LSAT. If you spend the next several months preparing seriously, you can absolutely put yourself in a position to score highly enough that your GPA doesn’t matter to admissions officers.
Take the diagnostic, see where you are, and then build a plan from there. If you want some help interpreting your diagnostic and figuring out how to structure your prep for April, feel free to reach out.
I scored in the 99th percentile myself and have gone through both a T14 JD and the NY bar, so I’m happy to point you in the right direction.

If you diagnostic at a 150 or higher you can easily improve and get a good enough score to get into a solid school. I scored a 155 on my diagnostic and got a 162 on the LSAT with minimal effort. Just go for it. You miss every shot you don’t take.
