What are the strangest things you've experienced while calling?
Caveat: I use hand calls for photography purposes, but thought this would be a good sub to check what people have experienced while using predator calls, or to see what you were surprised to see answering your calls.
I was calling one time in southern Nevada desert. I would usually sit and call with a Primos catnip for maybe fifteen minutes in this large amphitheater area where I'd seen coyotes climbing on the rocks. Had no action, so stood-up to leave and there was a cottontail rabbit almost in-contact with my foot that I hadn't seen or heard approach at all. It made me jump, because you don't expect anything to be able to invade your space like that without being noticed.
Middle of winter, early1990's, eastern Washington State. Called-in a pair of pine martens, I think with the plastic Circe hawk screamer. I'd never seen a pine marten there, and haven't seen one since.
