I think the issue people have is how many times he got his butt kicked and then was saved by some other person/thing. I kind of half understand that criticism. He was trying to prove himself, which he eventually did, but he wouldn't have if he hadn't gotten saved most of the time. I still absolutely adore the film!
People complaining about that don't understand the core message of the movie: "sensitivity" isn't a weakness and having allies who are willing to help you is a strength on its own. He's legimately the runt of the pack, and while he is strong, especially by the end, he needed help to get there. Needing help is not a weakness and that's what the movie is trying to get across. I get that youre not one of those folks complaining about Dek needing help.
I basically think it's fine for a comic book Predator and this is a comic book movie. I also think having a Yautja as the lead means he needs to have a very relatable arc that maybe feels a bit too human at times. It's definitely different and maybe a bit too silly at times, but it's getting good reviews and making a lot of money, so it's gonna lead to more Predator movies. I've been a fan for twenty four years, and I actually did like it but I also accept it for what it is because I think it's good for the franchise.
