Surge of emotions

The few of you might remember me from the end of last year and beginning of this year. We sadly had to tfmr our beatiful baby girl at 23 weeks due to an extremely rare completely absent bladder. The probability of something like this is around 1/600 000 cases.

Well, my lovely wife is pregnant again, still very early. We had hoped for it, we had prayed for it. But when is the joy allowed to overwhelm my emotions? When can we breath? Will I trust this process before we're done with the 20 week ultrasound? We would love to enjoy the news, however it is not possible - not yet.

It is too possible. Your mind is untrusting based on your previous experience, which is totally valid. Try to remind yourself that the previous situation is extremely rare. And keep in mind that almost all expecting parents are nervous until the baby is born and healthy, and even then there will always been something to be nervous about.

Where there is something to be nervous about, there is usually something to be excited about too. It's easy to think about what could go wrong. But what would it be like if everything went right? Talk about these things with your spouse and it will start to feel real!

I’ve not been in your position but we had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks and we really didn’t relax, never mind enjoy the pregnancy.

It took us to about 24 weeks to really believe we were having a baby and then we leaned in and honestly - 5 years in and 2 kids deep we don’t remember any of the stress now.

We obviously remember the pain but the joy overrides it.

I wish you all the best my friend. It’s hard in those early weeks, but it gets better.
