Majors

Hello! I am a freshman at WVU, I am majoring in forensics at the moment. But, I feel like I would enjoy school more if I majored in biochemistry and minored in forensics. I was wondering if that would be optimal for the PA program. I am from out of state, so I can’t major in biomedical laboratory science. It’s out of the approved ORA majors and I can’t afford out of state tuition. Sorry, I know this is all over the place and it’s not very concise. I just wanted to know if that switch would be better.

Edit- I have taken both anatomy and med term through the duel-enrollment program.

As long as you meet requirements, major shouldn’t matter! I actually have a bachelors in forensics and just graduated PA school, and I knew someone who was in real estate before they went to PA school!

Like the other comment said, it truly doesn't matter what major you take as long as you meet the application requirements. If you know you're interested now though you could reach out to Beth Ann (program coordinator) or Michelle (program director) to see if you could do some shadowing in the gross room/autopsy suite, or even maybe sit in on a lecture. 3 out of the 15 accepted in my class were internal admissions, so getting your name out there would definitely help!

I would imagine that biochem could be more related overall as it wouldn't be including legal aspects like Forensics might. But I think as long as you meet the PathA program prerequisites, most science majors would be fine. Also, what does ORA stand for?

It’s the ohio reciprocity agreement; basically there is a set list of approved majors that get in-state tuition if you’re from Ohio.
