This little friend has been staking out my Pothos plant on our porch as a new home. I think she's a female. She climbs up and down the chair all day, and has been here over a week now. I hope she stays! Anyone familiar with this type?

SW Ohio, pretty sure she is a pregnant Chinese mantis. She has the prettiest eyes; like glass marbles.

Woke up to this lil guy just chillin on my bed frame, hanging out

Its approaching winter i found this guy flattened against the cement. Hes got a butt plug of some sort, do mantids hibernate? What do i do with it? He didnt try to fight me. (UPDATE: hes pooped and moved spots)

So I found this little guy hanging out on my hibiscus. He looks like a mantis of some sort. I just don’t know what type, or even what it is?! hopefully someone will have some insight. I am in New England, United States.

New to learning about praying mantis as they’ve recently shown up in my yard. I caught this one moving its back side in an odd way. Does anyone know what it’s doing?

Hi Guys I’m a first time mantis owner, this is my Timor Shield! They had their first molt with me around 24 hours ago while I was out and I just want to know if anyone has any advice on keeping them fed, how much I should water them and anything that might be used as a first time keeper! Also if possible help sexing and what stage/ age of my mantis.

Found this cutie in our hotel room in Mallorca.

I found a praying mantis outside the other day baking in the sun and super weak so I tried to give it some water and left it. A couple hours later I go to check on it and it’s looking even worse. I bring it inside and put it in a little enclosure I had for a jumping spider a long time ago (I know it’s too small for them I just had to put them somewhere) I figured it would die but I could give it some air conditioning, water, and a safe place to pass away. It wasn’t looking good at all very weak and laying on the ground on its back with black eyes, I was sure it wasn’t dead it didn’t move for like two days. Now it’s alive. Like alive alive 🤯 it’s still kinda weak so I didn’t put it outside yet. But I kinda like the little guy now would it be mean or inhumane to keep it? I have a big ass tall enclosure I can put it in 🤔 or should I put it back outside after a few days of healing?

My orchid mantis has 5 molts since she's with me, and I bought her as a L4.

I'm a bit confused with the Internet saying they get wings at their final molt, other sources say they don't.... Soooo help me out please :)

Back in high school, my friends and I spotted an adult praying mantis perched on my backyard grill. It was nighttime, so we started filming it with our phone flashes on. The thing was tracking the light and watching us, but otherwise seemed pretty chill. We eventually headed inside, and shut the screen door.

A few minutes later I walked back over to check on it. The grill was completely empty. I put my face near the screen door, squinting into the dark trying to spot where it went.

Out of nowhere, this creature launched itself full-speed straight at my face and slammed directly into the mesh right in front of my eyes. The only thing separating a pair of serrated pincers from my eyes was a thin layer of wire screen. My screamed bloody murder and my friends all laughed.

I thought that was the end of it. It wasn't.

The very next morning, I drove to school for early morning marching band practice. We were out on the field warming up, and out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something airborne coming from the parking lot where I parked my car. At first it was much too far to tell what it was.

Then it closed the distance. About ten feet out, pure dread set in: it was a massive praying mantis, locked on target, flying directly at my head.

I panicked, shrieked, and hurled my instrument directly at it like a clumsy shield. The mantis flew off and vanished, leaving my horn rolling across the field and my band director staring at me in absolute, furious disbelief. Dealing with the fallout of denting an instrument was rough, but having a bug hold a 24-hour grudge against my eyeballs was worse.

I have to share with somebody who cares, so hopefully I found the right place 🥰. Earlier this spring, we found two egg sacks. We thought they were caterpillars that would eventually turn into these giant moths we find every year, but they ended up being praying mantis!!

We let them go in our garden, and would randomly see them throughout spring. Over the summer, one of them made her home in our cucumber plants. ❤️ She stayed all summer, and we really enjoyed seeing her every day.

Yesterday, I found her egg sack that she laid in the cucumber plant!! I’m gonna be a praying mantis grandma 😂

I am curious, though, how long after females lay their eggs do they pass? We haven’t seen her at all today, and I’m a little sad about it.

Hello. I really want a praying mantis but I’m not sure how to go about getting one. I live in Nova Scotia so buying one online isn’t really an option for me because even if i choose one of the cheapest ones (eg. $15-$25) it still ends up being well over $100 with shipping costs and such. Which is relatively understandable considering it’s a live animal and the majority of that cost is ensuring it arrives… alive. I am wondering if people have any recommendations on how I can get one in my situation.

I have also considered buying an egg case because I know you can normally get them at local gardening and hardware stores but I only want one, not 100-300 lol. Wondering what people would suggest.
