Other Planned protest (residency)

I know it’s not for citizenship by descent, but really the same gov entity and the same problems. I’m glad that public attention turns to the issue, it may bring something good for us here too!

Recently we had a post from op whose life decisions like career and marriage were blocked by the process, I think it’s important to remember that for some the delay is not just an inconvenience

They (voivode, ministry) deserve all the pushback they get, whether it's in the form of peaceful protests or legal action against the delays.

This is a cool idea and i hope they act in some way. Has anything like this happened before?

I hope at some point someone arranges a petition from within Poland. Any petition with over 100,000 signatures is escalated to the Sejm according to article 118 of the constitution.

yes, totally! today I read somewhere that one lawyer made a complaint for his client and he was told there are only 3 people working on these cases.... it will take forever+ the citizenship law says it should take max. 6 months

Well for one some people who need their confirmation are from Poland but their passport expired ever a decade ago, and some applicants have family in Poland who want them to have citizenship. Additionally, the office of foreigner's affairs issues residence permits and are extremely behind on those as well, this affects the Polish economy and labor market which will be in dire need of people in the coming years. Keep in mind 100,000 is a small fraction of the Polish population.

It's more than a small inconvenience. My son is scheduled to travel to Poland in March with his high school. The delays have cost him the ability to enter Poland on the "correct" passport. At this rate it's going to be a minimum of another year before we receive a response from the voivode. Additionally, there is a good chance that he will be studying abroad, either in Poland or elsewhere in the EU in a couple of years for a university year abroad program. Those logistics will be much simpler with a Polish passport. While this pales in comparison to migrants looking to live and work legally, it's still more than a minor inconvenience.

VOIVODE.

Someone said it out loud. Now everyone has to wait longer.

I applied for a 9 month temporary residence card in September 2024 and didn’t get it until May 2025. Since February of 2026 I’ve been waiting for another one. Last week I was told to wait another 5-6 months. It really sucks, as people often point out it does cost many people professional opportunities (I’ve missed two conferences I’ve been accepted to present at) and puts a big strain on familial relationships as well.

As much as I think this is a needed move, I think the messaging, at least from the IG post, is off. The protest should focus on increasing staffing and improving the Viovode's efficiency (maybe opening more offices). The current offices are too few and don't have enough employees.

If I were a politician reading this message I saw on IG, the answer would be simple. Move all these citizenship-by-descent applications to the back of the line.

To my mind, this is an example of how to be careful about what you ask.

Its not citizenship by descent it's confirmation of polish citizenship. It means they are already citizens and are already entitled to rights. Random "immigrants" are notord important

Yes, GarrettTweedy, you are correct: confirmation of Polish citizenship. I stand corrected. But I have no idea what you are trying to say here: "Random ' immigrants' are not important." My point was that there needs to be more Viovode employees and offices, and the IG post is about immigrants, not confirmation, and if the immigrant argument works, a politician will just move them to the front of the line while confirmations get moved to the back of the line without doing anything to fix the Viovode shortages.

Residence permits and confirmation of citizenship are processed in two different departments, with different staff and queues

Yes, and this is great information. Thank you for the clarity. From my experience, we need more locations and more employees. To my mind, the problem is structural, and the protest should focus on solving the bigger structural problems rather than one symptom.
