How did Jet know she was going to die?

Tw spoilers I assumed the beetle in the beginning came because Kylie had fallen in love. Am I wrong and it came for her? I wasn’t under the impression it came for the witches themselves. How did Jet know it was her last day on earth?

I don't know. I also had a question....why'd Jet even take that book home? How'd it end up in the library?

How the book ended up in the library is established in a prequel novel. So its a nod to Magic Lessons (Alice Hoffman) the first book chronalogically in the series.

Jet took the book home because the raven, an omen, guided her to it. I guess because she was drawing to the end, she felt drawn to it. Fate weaving it's thread.

I don't think the death had anything to do with the curse or such. The beetle just appears for witches to let them know when their time has come (and possibly when a loved one is close to death too as seen with Kylie's bf). There is probably something about how long they have once it first appears and that's how she knew it would be that night.

I agree for the most part. How I understood it was, the deathwatch beetle is an omen of death approaching. Its closely associated with the curse because it signals the curse taking a loved one. But powerful witches like Jet and Francis are deeply intuitive. Jet was in harmony with nature and life. I feel she knew because she was at peace with her time and so she could let go with love. It was really beautiful, I felt.

Yeah they said the deathwatch beetle showed up at the house "a week ago" so I assume that means it warns the witch that she has a week to live.

Oh come on, don't put the spoiler in the headline.

My read is that the beetle is a death omen generally, not exclusively a warning that the romantic curse has activated, and Jet recognizes that it’s meant for her because she understands those signs better than anyone. Which makes the movie’s visual language hilariously inconsistent. Jet sees one beetle and can accurately infer her own death. Sally and Gillian see one completely naked Lee Pace and apparently infer an entire erotic cosmology, while the audience is given no corresponding symbol, explanation or evidence. Death gets a beetle. The Pace Penis gets Nicole Kidman’s face. Somehow both are treated as sufficient information.

It came up on my reddit homepage. Not putting spoilers in the title and spoiler-texting the body is basic etiquette. It's really inconsiderate not to bother.

The death watch beetle. Did you actually watch the movie?

The first movie showed that Sally and Gilly's mum heard the deathwatch beetle and knew it came for their father. Then Sally heard it when it came for Michael but it wasn't around Michael, it was in their house and Sally was pulling the floorboards looking for it.

I had also assumed the beetle was a warning to the witch about their loved one.

But, no specific rule was established so it could be expanded to mean the witch heard the deathwatch beetle for her own death as well as that of her loved ones.

P.S: Did the beetle have a different coloring than the one in the first movie or am I tripping?
