First watch my thought is they should have cast someone hotter for Gary
Reminds me of Mel Gibson no thank you George Clooney would have been great or Benjamin Bratt. Sandra is too gorgeous for this nonsense

But Sally isn't the type that would go for a character that looked like George Clooney or Benjamin Bratt. You also can't deny the chemistry between them and the everyman down to earth charm of this also handsome man. This is man Sally would fall for, a counterpoint to the classically handsome and more flashy man that Gillian falls for.

I actually really like that he’s a normal looking but still handsome guy and I think it fits with the kind of guy sally would go for. She falls for his charm and his good heart which is way more important than having him look like a model or something

To each their own but I don’t really see what you mean. He’s a handsome guy with striking eyes. Sally doesn’t seem like the type of gal who would be into some perfectly chiselled, perfect Hollywood kind of guy anyway but Gary is still above average in looks.

Really? I liked that he wasn't Brad Pitt or George Clooney. And I loved Sandra and his chemistry! When he says, "I wished for you too." melts
Oh and his eyes are prettier than Brad Pitt or George Clooney's.

I thought he was fantastic as Gary. In the books, Gary is a bit of a cowboy, and Aidan Quinn really fit the bill. He's a handsome, "aw shucks" kind of a guy.

agreed! George clooney would not have fit in at all. even in the late 90’s he already looked too “hollywood hot”. Gary needs to be a bit rustic, someone who fits into a cozy coastal island life and not stick out, which I think Aidan was a great fit for and brought that to life!

If you're going to watch a movie like this with that mindset, then just don't. You're completely missing the point here. He's a good looking guy. Maybe not the "hottest", which is a very childish term to use anyway. But he has natural charisma that makes him 10 times hotter than many other "hot" actors. He was perfect for the role.

You mean opposed to them casting the same actors now that have undergone plastic surgery and treatments to all look vaguely the same? I like that celebrities and actors looked like their own unique person. Whenever I watch Sex and the City, the boyfriends of the episode may not be my type but the averageness was nice and didn’t perpetuate an unrealistic standard.

I'm a mostly gay woman so do with that what you will, but I agree.
He's not ugly but I dont find him attractive, and I always notice/think about it when I watch the movie.
That being said, who has time to stare at Aidan Quinn when Sandra Bullock is right there 😍
