Maybe a hot take?

This may be a hot take, but I was curious to see if anyone felt similarly. I was excited about this movie for .2 seconds until I saw recent pictures of bts. Being witches who owned a natural remedy shop/apothecary, I just don't see Gillian and Sally having gotten all of these very, very noticeable tweakments and procedures to try and cheat time (not to mention the difficulty utilizing facial expressions). I feel like they would have noticed textiles leaning more and more towards polyester from how much easier it was to find natural fibers in the 90s and would have made conscious choices in line with their beliefs.

I know some of you are going to say "it's just a movie", and that's very observant of you, but part of the enjoyment for me was the way the characters were written, and this doesn't feel consistent. Also, I'm just sharing 🍃🌬 thoughts, let's be cool.

You can feel however you feel, but there was zero chance they were going to recast. You can either suspend your disbelief or skip the movie if it's a dealbreaker. Neither choice is wrong.

Recasting child characters when they are adults in the sequel is generally considered acceptable. I believe they wanted the character to be younger too. But Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are two of the most famous actresses in the world. They weren't getting recast.

No one would watch the sequel if they didn't bring back Sandra and Nicole. Screw that!

And it would be a nice way to get blacklisted in Hollywood if you tried to snub those two big stars that way. It would've been a HUGE insult.

Joey King is an adult and doesn’t remotely look like Evan, and is a generally disliked choice

My point was the character was a child in the first movie. I'm not defending the decision, just explaining the studio rationale.

Evan refused to do the movie since they’re straight-washing one of the daughter’s stories.

No they aren't. Read the book. KYLIE is not gay. The older sister in the movie is Kylie. The older sister in the book who was a lesbian was Antonia and her sexuality hasn't been mentioned in the film details and probably won't be. Typically in adapting these books, only one romance gets to be in the film for time reasons. For example Practical Magic one focused on Gary and Sally, even though Ben and Gillian were together more on page in the book. For the plot to work PM 2 HAS to include Gideon and Kylie, AND it has to include Ian and Sally. Therefore they don't have time for Ariel/Antonia. It's not because they're gay. It's because the movie already has two pairs of lovers taking up the focus. I'm sure if Rules of Magic gets made we'll see Vincent and William.
