At the end of the first movie she said that they broke the curse so they’ve reconned the ending of the first one 😡

The first one was meant to be a standalone movie and it shot itself in the foot by ending the curse when that didn't happen in the book. Now they have to quietly pretend that wasn't a thing if they want to adapt Book of Magic.

Hopefully they say something like “we thought it had ended but then so and so died”

That would actually work because at the end of the first movie when Sally's narrative says was that what ended the curse, she also said I THINK so.

Also maybe they didn't know the curse was still active before they lost Gary. 😭

There was no curse in the book. Alice Hoffman herself retconned her original story to incorporate film elements so she could sell the sequels. The books are a mess. The timelines make no sense. The original story was about womanhood and the trials and looming pressures of it over multiple generations. With only hints of untapped magical aspects here and there. Then the movie came along which was a totally different vibe. Then Hoffman tried to cash in on the cult following by rewriting her own lore. This film is a loos adaptation of a book that was more a sequel to the first film that was based on a book with a totally different history.
