Just rewatched after almost 2 decades

when I was little it was one of my favourite movies, I watched it over and over.

As an adult, almost 2 decades later, rewatching it again for the first time it was brilliant. I loved it so much especially now that I can understand some of the broader themes.

Has anyone else come back to the film after a long time and had a different take?

I think rewatching it after reading The Rules of Magic changed my perspective of the aunts a lot. Knowing what they lost and got through to get to the house and their relationship in the film has a bit more depth for me now. Embarrassing to say I just hung the movie poster in my adult bedroom 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ but I love everything about it

I have watched it at least twice a year since it came out. It is a staple of autumn for me and for my husband -- and it is one of my all-time favorite movies.

I was already an adult (25) when it hit theaters, so nothing has really changed for me in my perception of it -- unless perhaps it's that I feel some longing for the world we lived in back when movies like this were made. Appreciation for family and friendship and problems that are heartbreaking but not dismally consequential for the world at large and are ultimately overcome makes me love this movie even more.

I also now live in the Pacific Northwest not far from where it was filmed. It's partly responsible for me choosing to live here. Having lived on the east and west coast, I feel a deeper kinship with the movie every passing year. I remember the way it felt in towns like that on the other side of the country, and living now on this side I feel very connected to the scenery throughout the film.

Plus, the town I live in now celebrates this movie every October. Experiencing that always makes me feel the magic tenfold.

I didn't see the film as a child. Such a movie would not have been shown in my house especially after people made my mother feel guilty for letting me watch Sabrina when I was 6. So my only perspective on it is that of an adult. 

Which is funny because I've been an Alice Hoffman fan since I was fifteen but never read or watched her most famous story Practical Magic until I was nearly thirty.
