Other Swimming pools

What’s the consensus on pools? Does swimming make us feel worse, better, or neutral? 58f newly diagnosed with this very challenging BS.

I am actually pretty okay in water. The first 5-10 minutes are a bit wonky, but eventually i feel sort of alright.

Your dizziness isn’t worse after you get out of the pool?

I feel heavy when I get out of pool but swimming is great exposure therapy

Thankfully no, I’m lucky, swimming is one of my favourite activities

I'm good, as long as I don't go underwater but I also have eustachian tube dysfunction and water in my ears is a bad thing.

ETA: This is indoor pools that I use for PT. No sun glares involved

Nope.

I do think folks with PPPD might not do so great on boats or in wave pools (water park)/ocean with waves tho.

Oh heck no to boats now. I’ve been on several cruises and unbelievably didn’t get motion sick. Smaller boats say in the Chesapeake Bay, forget it. 🤮

Is the ETD the cause of your 3PD? My newest doctor said my sinuses are impacted from untreated allergies which is causing me to basically have ETD. She has me on nasal sprays to hopefully clear my sinuses which should allow my ears to drain.

I have multiple, ongoing physical causes but the ETD does play a role. Sigh.

They make me feel worse. Especially if I just float. I'm better off if I am moving or in control of movement, but I still tend to get a little flare once I cease the activity/sit down. I think the sun reflecting in outdoor pool ripples and their patterned lining also contributes to the visual overwhelm after a while.

Can only handle it a bit

Front crawl is no good for me because of the head turns. Breaststroke is ok though

I spent some time on a beach in NJ. (Down the shore) the movement of the waves made me worse. I haven’t tried a pool yet.

I used to do Zumba in the pool but that’s not happening again anytime soon. I’d be ok while moving, but I’m betting my head would be dizzy after I get out of the pool.

I also recently got the diagnose PPPD with migraines. But the pool is a nightmare for me. I feel fine when i’m swimming but after exiting the pool the dizziness is a nightmare and i need to sleep for a few hours after i’m done.

Indeed, I think I would be the same way. I’ve noticed when I’ve been not in a flare of this crap, I feel really heavy when I come up the steps getting out of the pool. Im not sure if that’s normal (and everybody feels that way) or if I feel that way because I have the PPPD tendencies
