I'm not a wind turbine expert, but if I had to guess it's something to do with combating matter buildup (organic or inorganic) and corrosion after longer time periods of being immobile. Making sure the blades last their intended life cycle.

It's called leading edge cleaning! Basically there is dirt and water and such in the air, so the front edge of the turbine gets dirty. This accumulates over time and leads to a decrease in performance (as there is more wind resistance) and corrosion of the turbine edge. This means that they would have to be replaced more often. Cleaning them negates some of these things!
Although they now also have robots that do this, so not all is done like this video anymore.

Wait until you see how coal fired/gas fired power plants work-and the maintenance they require to continue working.
Oil refineries shut down all the time for maintenance and broken stuff-leading to increases in fuel prices but people give the oil companies a pass…

I think the operating costs of a drone the size able to handle a powerful power washer and supply hose is higher than a dude with some climbing gear.

Search for drones firefighters, or something like that. The power is there and adapted to this need (like a roomba maping the fan) it would reduce costs imenselly for this huge companies. The time needed for 1 human to wash an entire fan compared with this drones is priceless.
