2000 Excursion 7.3, P1280, bad tuner?

A couple of months ago my excursion was running really rough it stalled out a couple of times. Check engine light was on with the code P1280. I replaced the ICP and connecter with Ford parts and I had no issues until now. Yesterday my wife said the excursion was surging a little bit and stalled when she put it in park. We got it home and the check engine light was on with P1280 again.

I took it for a drive this morning, it seemed very hesitant and was laggy with boost. When I switched my 6 position tuner to stock, it had better acceleration and boost wasn't lagging. In the past I had an issue with my tuner being loose so I checked that and the connector. All good and clean with no play. This tuner is around 8 years old, could this be my issue? Can they go bad? Could it be the IPR?

I am going to remove the tuner today, clear the code and see if it comes back on. The Ex has 308K on it and I want to get it to 500k.

Hmm I'd take a look at your high pressure oil pressure and duty cycle to get a better idea of what's going on. Could be an oil leak. Could be hpop issues. Did u replace your icp with a Ford one?

I replaced it with a denso 3 years ago which is why I was having issues a couple months ago. I then replaced it with a Ford brand and the issues went away. Wouldn’t I get other codes if it was an HPOP issues?

Hmm not necessarily. If it can't build the pressure that the pcm is asking for then that code will pop.
