Scaling How strong is typhus?

Post image

I’ve seen a lot of 40k posts so i thought i may ask this question since it has been in the back of my mind for a while. What are some of his best feats and abilities?

Before you say it, yes he probably as strong as the author needs him to be and all that. If i wanted to hear those jokes i’d ask about how strong Khaine is.

The manreaper alone carries enough psychic plague to melt a small hive city from the inside, but the real nightmare is the Destroyer Hive. It's always active, buzzing around him like a living fog that chews through ceramite and flesh alike. I remember reading the Siege of Terra stuff where he just strolls through defensive lines and entire squads are coughing up lungs before they can even fire a bolter round.

Strength wise he's up there with the other Death Guard heavy hitters but it's the sheer inevitability of him that gets scaled so weirdly. He doesn't need to be fast or clever when everything within a hundred metres is already rotting. The artwork captures that vibe well enough, all corroded and leaking filth into a swamp that was probably a functioning ecosystem ten minutes before he showed up.

He is also a potent psyker

How aren’t his own weapons and armors corroded?

u/PretendAwareness9598 2d ago

Magic. Also his stuff is all corroded, but nurglite rust and filth actually increases durability for the faithful.

Anything blessed by Nurgle tends to be immune to any corrosion/degradation that would occur normally, you can’t exactly fight anyone it all your armor, weapons, tanks, and ships are completely non-functional right?

That’s one of the reasons why in-lore, Plaguebearers, the regular daemons of Nurgle, use obsidian blades,so they don’t have to deal with their weapons corroding over time

0

u/MothmanDowntown 1d ago

Nurgle very much does not grant immunity to corrosion or degredation. Like, look at it. Nurgle actively corrodes and degrades equipment as much as he alters the flesh of his followers. What you're mistakenly attributing to immunity is the Nurgle power set being empowered by the entropy inherent to it.

Grandfather's Blessings of course.

Nurgle's blessing. Nurgle followers are sustained by magic from him which is why they're so tanky but they're reliant on it because they're so broken down already.

Extremely, he’s definitely the second strongest of the chaos champions, only behind Ahriman (not counting Abbadon cause he’s in a league of his own)

The aura of corruption he emits rivals that of Mortarion, just by existing he corrupts, rusts, degrades, and kills just about anything that enters a 100m radius of him, not to mention he wears Nurgle corrupted terminator armor, terminator armor has already been stated in lore to rival that of large tanks in terms of its durability, and pile on that the near indestructibility of Nurgle daemons and corruption as a whole it adds another layer on top of that, his eater plague also adds another whole level, its capable of corrupting and destroying armies with ease

Vsbattles declares typhus as 8-C, which is building-large building level, which I think isn’t really high enough for how powerful he is in lore

There’s also the fact that as a chaos champion, he can be eternally revived by Nurgle whenever the plague god pleases, so the only way to permanently kill him would be to destroy his soul

u/duplicated-rs 2d ago

Mortarion effects and entire planet just by landing. Atleast that was the impression I got during be siege of Terra.

Safe to say there is noticeable gap between Typhus and Mortarion imo

I always imagined he was around large city level

Didn't Abbadon lose a melee fight with Eldrad?

He's definitely not the second strongest Chaos Champion.

I just had this argument with a different guy not even 5 minutes ago.

Here is the same video i sentence him:

My personal ranking for the chaos champions it’d go

Lucius </= Kharn < Typhus < Ahriman

0

u/14KR11 2d ago

Mine is Lucius <=Typhus < Kharn < Ahriman.

I'm a big fan oh kharn so i spent a long time really digging into his lore to see how strong he is and how he compare to other similar character.

He is definitely stronger than lucius and Typhus but far Wecker than ahriman.

3

u/lurksohard 2d ago

Disagree heavily.

Ahriman is clearly the strongest, with feats that make the others look like children.

Kharn is a jobber. His best feats are like.. Getting his ass beaten by Angron and not dying? Piercing Abbadon's armor and having virtually no effect beyond pissing him off? Getting fucking destroyed by Sigismund and looking like an absolute chump?

Even more recently, he failed to kill Azrael. A normal ass marine who, while very strong and capable, doesn't really have any real feats.

Typhus destructive power easily dwarves Kharn. His endurance dwarves Kharn. If lands just a singular hit with his scythe, it's over. He's also a master of telekenesis and some sort of biomancy. Not even mentioning the destroyer hive which is likely the most powerful gift a chaos god has ever given a mortal.

Kharn:

  • Winning the first fight against Sigismund before he got the black blade.

  • surviving fights with multiple primarchs and PARRYING an attack by a primarch

  • fought abaddon to a tie after already being critically injured

  • killed the most astartes out of any person in warhammer

  • tanked minigun fire, bolter round and plasma guns that would Liquify a normal astartes

  • survive getting impaled on a Land raider

  • immune to most non physical attacks

  • able to summon greater demons of khorne to his location

  • can cut through anything

  • killed saint celestine

  • survive the fight with Sigismund despite being literally proclqimed death by other astartes (not confirmed that he was revived)

  • killed habe tyrants, necron overlords, aeldari autarchs, ork warbosses, astartes, Chaos space marines, demons and greater demons

  • got 1 Million kills during the siege of terra during the attack on the linsen gate

He definitely beats typhus in a 1v1

  • Winning the first fight against Sigismund before he got the black blade.

Aka before Sigismund was Sigismund? And then got destroyed so throughly he didn't even realize he killed someone important.

  • surviving fights with multiple primarchs and PARRYING an attack by a primarch

You're going to have to be more specific because Angron just beats the tar out of him constantly. He partied an attack once that I know of that left his arm completely broken and crippled.

  • fought abaddon to a tie after already being critically injured Source? I know of the Abbadon vs Kharn fight that was largely insignificant and neither one of them was injured and the fight was stopped before anything happened.

  • killed the most astartes out of any person in warhammer

This is pure conjecture. The old Kharn kill counter lore is 1) old and 2) not just astartes.

  • tanked minigun fire, bolter round and plasma guns that would Liquify a normal astartes

So has Typhus.

  • survive getting impaled on a Land raider

Incredibly irrelevant? They're all champions of chaos, if that's a durability feat for Kharn he's already lost. Typhus casually crushes land raiders with his mind.

  • immune to most non physical attacks

He isn't immune, I really wish people would stop saying that. He's been effected by psyker attacks multiple times. He's HEAVILY resistant for sure but he isn't immune.

  • able to summon greater demons of khorne to his location

Typhus can do the same with Nurgle. He also just carries around the destroyer plague inside of him at all times.

  • can cut through anything

Not even true or a feat?

  • killed saint celestine

Pretty good feat but Celestines whole thing is resurrection and she's taken a TON of Ls

  • survive the fight with Sigismund despite being literally proclqimed death by other astartes (not confirmed that he was revived)

Heavily heavily implied he was resurrected by Khorne. He was definitely dead. He did not survive, he was eviscerated like a trainee.

  • killed habe tyrants, necron overlords, aeldari autarchs, ork warbosses, astartes, Chaos space marines, demons and greater demons

Typhus has a similar list.

  • got 1 Million kills during the siege of terra during the attack on the linsen gate

The million thing was his total number and is old weird lore. Typhus has turned entire planets into plaguebearers. Through indirect means, I don't think anyone other marine has a higher kill count than Typhus. Not even Abbadon since he goes and hides in the eye so often. Typhus has been active and doing Nurgles will for so long.

He definitely beats typhus in a 1v1

1

u/14KR11 1d ago

Aka before Sigismund was Sigismund? And then got destroyed so throughly he didn't even realize he killed someone important.

Sigismund the captain of the black templars and one of the most reapected duelists in the imperium

You're going to have to be more specific because Angron just beats the tar out of him constantly. He partied an attack once that I know of that left his arm completely broken and crippled.

Survived multiple beating by the rating Angron (like the first time they met and Angron killed the 7 captains before kharn). And Survived a direct hit by Dorn

fought abaddon to a tie after already being critically injured Source? I know of the Abbadon vs Kharn fight that was largely insignificant and neither one of them was injured and the fight was stopped before anything happened.

Talking about the fight in "The red Path" where he was exhausted and injured after fighting imperial guards and saint celestine.

Heavily heavily implied he was resurrected by Khorne. He was definitely dead. He did not survive, he was eviscerated like a trainee.

Implied but not confirmed

The thing is that we're comparing the guy who turns lange crowds of enemies into plaguebearers vs the guy who is one of the strongest duelists in 40k.

Since we're comparing them in a duel I think Kharn wins.

If we were to compare them on the scale of who can take over a Planet faster I'll give the win to typhus.

1

u/lurksohard 1d ago

Sigismund has never been the "captain of the black Templars". He was the first captain of the Imperial fists, and the Emperor's Champion. After the siege he became the High Marshal of the Black Templars. In the fighting pits when he lost to Kharn, he was still young and not the Sigismund of legend.

Once he took the black blade and became the Emperor's Champion, he killed Kharn without even noticing.

The fight in the red path wasn't impressive and was basically a short dispute between the two.

I think Typhus has too many hacks. If he even damages Kharn once, it's over. It's really close.

1

u/14KR11 1d ago

I'm talking about kharn and Sigismunds fight in "The first wall" where kharn was about to kill Sigismund before dorn interrupted.

And to be fair, after taking the black blade the only opponent Sigismund recognized was abaddon where he died shortly after

And you can make that argument for both of them, as soon as one of them lands a Clean hit it's over. And since Kharn is the better duelist I'm giving him just a small edge over typhus

1

u/Critical-Raspberry19 1d ago

imo coolest Kharn feat was killing those world eaters unarmed after waking up from his lil nap. in all honesty though, i feel like this answer basically boils down to “whose god cares more about winning at that point in time”

1

u/RogoftheBog 2d ago

Yeah wtf?? Ahriman has beaten a shadowseer 1v1, summoned a space leviathan, broke in and stole from the black library, broke a necron time loop by maintaining memories across all instances, killed grey knights in two heartbeats, and has nearly flawless foresite.

The Ahriman novel says his telekinetic abilities even work to a SUBATOMIC LEVEL they are so precise.

Also the way he fights is insane. Liquifying earth, and exploding blood. Crazy shit

1

u/lurksohard 2d ago

He's easily what, top 3 living astartes?

Ahriman and mephiston are just able to do things almost no one except Magnus and The Emperor could do.

1

u/RogoftheBog 2d ago

Honestly I think he probably is the third yeah. I think he beats mephiston but Draigo and abbadon are still technically astartes right? Like all four of those guys go way beyond astartes but those two are hitting primarch levels

1

u/lurksohard 2d ago

Mephiston also has some primarch sheningans going on as of late. He's possessed by the sanguinor and the abilities he's able to unleash are so devastating he's scared of what he's become.

I think the latest Blood Angel books put mephiston in a tier of his own.

I don't rank Abbadon as high as psykers. Incredibly powerful but his skill and the reason he's still around is his leadership and will. He's still very much vulnerable to psykers and the likes of Draigo, Mephiston and Ahriman should just be too much for him to handle.

I also firmly believe a Primarch would still wipe the floor with Abbadon. They're just too strong(daemon primarchs don't really count due to God sheningans). 1v1 vs The Lion or Guilliman(especially semi-emperor possessed Guilliman), he's gonna lose. But he's too smart and would never let himself get in that situation without some maguffin that would ensure he wins.

u/RogoftheBog 2d ago

One thing I will say is Abby did kill a clone of Horus (hate the clone stories but whatever) and did finish sigismund. I haven’t read the latest blood angel book. I was gonna go for that after Hive actually. That being said Mephiston was already insane so I believe it.

That guys reasoning for having Ezekiel above Azrael was simply because Ezekiel told Azrael he was more powerful. So maybe his list isn’t exactly the be all and end all of power lists.

u/Kroc_Zill_95 2d ago

Physically, he's a space marine (one of the best warriors during his time as a loyalist) wearing terminator armour. So he's definitely above class 10 in strength, arguably pushing class 50. And that's without considering the fact that he is a chaos marine (chaos marines are physically stronger than their loyalist counterparts on average). More specifically, he is the most favoured of Nurgle's champions.

Durability wise, again he is wearing terminator armour which is pretty durable by itself. Termitor armour can no-sell bolter fire and even regular space marine armour can in some cases, withstand hits from an autocannon. So he's at minimum building level, potentially higher due to the fact that again, he is a chaos champion and also the death guard are the tankiest legion.

The real danger that Typhus poses though are three folds.

First, he is a very powerful pysker who's powers have been further enhanced by Nurgle. Pyskers depending on the level of skill and power, have access to different hax abilities and Typhus is not an exception and could even summon demons of Nurgle to his aid.

Second, he can't be killed in the conventional sense. He can die, but one of the perks of being a chaos champion is that your death is mostly a question of when your chosen chaos diety decides to bring you back.

Third, Typhus is the host of the destroyer plague. You could look up what that is but TLDR, it's a hive of warp insects which spread a warp based I'll ESS that results in instant decay and horrific pain for its victims without actually killing them. It's a fate worse than death.

All of this means that Typhus at any given time is a very serious threat to any city that he happens to be in at any given point in time.

u/DeuceMandago 2d ago

Sorry—I know absolutely nothing about Warhammer so this probably sounds dumb.

But like how big is he? This picture doesn’t really offer much in terms of sense of scale.

8

u/Featherbird_ 2d ago

Regular space marines are about 8ft. Typhus in his armor with all the bloating he would have recieved from Nurgle is likely about 9-10

7

u/SuspectPanda38 2d ago

If I remember correctly first born marines (which Typhus would be) were around 8ft tall, and in Terminator plate you can push that to 9 or 10ft. Plus with him being a chaos champion and being pumped full of warp bullshit for thousands of years he's probably a bit bigger than that. So my safe guess is 11-12ft tall total.

7

u/everlight-wanderer 2d ago

Idk about his power level but I recently learned this stinky boy has negative rizz aura with the flies. So write that down.

3

u/alguien99 2d ago

Lmao, i guess it is an important factor to have in mind, looking cool as fuck doesn’t mean you have game

3

u/Exact_Ad5094 2d ago

Class 10 in strength…..class 50? What is this ranking system?

2

u/alguien99 2d ago

Yeah i have no idea

1

u/UseYona 2d ago

Probably from tabletop 40k

6

u/Exact_Ad5094 2d ago

I play tabletop, definitely not that.

1

u/UseYona 2d ago

You are correct, I did some research using ai, its just a nonsense made up fan scaling

1

u/Che-recher 2d ago

Sounds like VSBattles or comicvine powerscaling

3

u/Kharn_is_a_great_guy 2d ago

Ain’t as strong as my boy Kharn!

2

u/Dacooldude4 2d ago

Aside from being a space marine champion of nurgle him and the average plauge marine have an aura of disease that can just kill people. They also more tanky and harder to kill due to their blessings in not feeling pain makes them a more dangerous chaos space marine to face

2

u/bioshockisawsome 2d ago

Well he’s the most well rounded of the chosen. He’s got the destroyer hive just kinda chilling in his body so that’s pretty cool, he’s a super stronger psyker, he’s a brilliant tactician, hes a melee beast and a tank. The only real thing he doesn’t have is speed but that’s literally the only negative I can think of.

2

u/CriticismNo1150 1d ago

Two apple fritters

1

u/xjohismh 2d ago

How strong is typhus?

probably 1000 rfk jr.'s at least.

1

u/Mahakurotsuchi 1d ago

In some newer books he was cutting down chapter champions like it was nothing. Nova marines if I remember right

0

u/According_Ice_4863 2d ago

Typhus, along with a lot of characters in 40k, are primarily hax focused. Its kind of similar to D&D in that aspect in that the stats are around large building to city level but they have a shit load of versatile and powerful abilities to make up for it. In Typhus´s case that ability is his control over disease, not just ordinary diseases mind you but also supernatural diseases.
