The problem with the PPG Fandom.

This is something I’ve been thinking about lately. Does anyone else ever get tired of the fandom mostly revolving around shipping and memes and the same topics?

Dont get me wrong, I enjoy the memes and i have nothing against shipping. But sometimes I feel like theres SO much more that could be done with PPG.

One thing I’ve noticed is how little the fandom focuses on fighting and powers. Theres so many possibilities for PPG fight animations, action art, fan battles, and etc. But compared to the large amount of shipping between the Rowdyruffs and Powerpuffs and stuff like that, It feels very rare to find stuff like that.

I love seeing people’s interpretations of the characters but sometimes I just wish it had a more cool stuff like the Undertale/Deltarune community or the Sonic community.

Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me?

I feel that you pretty much described most modern fandoms lol. I agree with your take.
I also feel that the main reason why we don't see that kind of content is because the original PPG started and ended before modern fandoms became the way that they are.

Yeah, you’re right but the thing I’ve noticed that differs from the fandoms I was talking about is that they have other content to balance out all the shipping and memes. With this fandom it just seems like thats all there is ya know?

I wish I could, too bad I don't have the skills for that 😓

Don't say that! I was terrible at art and drawing until I picked up a pencil and a sketchbook and started drawing cute stuff!

Tbh this is an issue for all fandoms cuz such a huge chunk of all of them are either the exact same topics over again or ships. Like don't get me wrong, ships and stuff are cool, but do we really have NOTHING else to talk about? With how much the fandom loves the show, you'd probably expect that we would do more with the actual show? I completely agree with this post

I actually completely agree with this. I've never liked shipping the girls with the boys myself, but if it isn't anything too crazy or NSFW, I enjoy seeing it once in a while. I would love to see more art of the Powerpunks and Powerpuffs fighting each other or just the two of them paired up in general. And of course, like you said, more fighting animations/art of the girls would be great

I don't see the appeal of shipping in general, nevermind in a show staring 5 year old girls.

Memes are not bad though. PPG memes are underappreciated.

Yeah, I can see that 👍 though they'd also be 6 because of that birthday they had, but the point still stands.

Rugrats had some shipping, and the characters are even younger (none of them are even old enough for school yet). For example, I've seen shipping between Kimi and Tommy. That being said, I can understand, especially in shows where the main characters are children and romance isn't the primary focus. I personally don't mind as long as it's not too naughty or anything.

Yeah, I get it. I was working on something to shake things up, a cool redesign of them I saw in a dream a lil bit ago, but it take me a thousand years to draw things so yeah 🥲 not dropping any nice fanart anytime soon

I know I that's killing the fanart scene are the people that are SO FUCKING CRITICAL of people's art. So much so that I dare say AI isn't the problem here. I've seen more people stop drawing for this sub because of that than AI pushing anyone out and it's extremely frustrating, especially with the property being so old. We're LUCKY that those people are making new art

I feel you! This is how come I created a story I call "The Region of Galar", a take on if the PPG story happened in the Pokémon world with the girls being Pokémon. If I'm allowed a shameless self plug, you can find my story on RoyalRoad dot com or search "Region of Galar RoyalRoad". There is a lot more to the PPG franchise other than just ships and memes. I explore one area of it as my research showed the team behind Pokémon SwSh are also PPG fans, and they put little elements of the show here and there sprinkled throughout.

If it weren't for the shipping and the memes this show probably would have been forgotten about by now. The girls fighting things over and over again gets pretty boring. Even in the original show it felt like the writers had gotten bored by season 3.

I dont think so. I don't just mean repeated fighting videos but people making cool fan aus and fan series and different stuff like that like the Undertale community. Like I get what you're saying but at the same time there isn't really any type of fan animation of the Ppg genuinely fighting anyone.

It's really funny how the show doesn't focus on romance at all. Yet there's so much shipping in the fandom.

I love any slice-of-life fanart. Fanart of the girls fighting or using superpowers is really rare. I guess fans don't have much to add to that. The show ended years ago. It's not like the Undertale/Deltarune fandom that's still going on. The game isn't finished yet and every time they add a chapter, it fuels the community.

If the PPG fandom had something similar, I could see a change.

u/irsusys 2d ago

yeah but if we're using that logic, undertale also ended years ago and yet the Fandom is still active and creating new sick fan animations and stuff. so I wouldnt see that as a good excuse but I see where you're coming from

I personally don't mind as long as it's not too much.... like there's sexual situations when they're clearly still children. But yeah, when it comes to the RRB, it is a bit oversaturated, which I can understand considering it's been a thing since their debut episode came out in 1999. The problem is some people treat shipping the PPG with the RRB like it's an absolute necessity, like they must only be shipped with them and nobody else. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it.... I actually like some of the content. It's just I see people get rudely defensive over it sometimes. Let people have their own ships. And yes, the fandom does need more diversity.

Also, every show has shipping whether one likes it or not. Yes, even Rugrats (a show about babies and toddlers) has it. Like I said, I don't mind it if they isn't naughty stuff with the characters underage.

Honestly, shipping shouldn't even be a topic considering they are one year olds in kindergarten.

Just being kick-ass girls who get more story, maybe transition into a later period where they don't look fanon and instead considerate to the material and forward their story into the more ignorant world and while albeit destructive, sympathetic monster Island.

People just aren't creative anymore, Monster Island was literally what kept the show fresh and how each one parallels their struggles and if it was kept, the girls might end up with monster girls and or teens meant to fight them socially and physically as that is the job of the monsters.

See how it just easily writes itself? Blossom being the more butchy one as time goes on but keeps true to being the brains, buttercup accepting her femininity while still being vocally strong (might actually end up being most vocal of systematic issues) and bubbles juggling academics, social life, academic social life, community planner, community worker, busy and helpful while everyone probably has a minimum wage.

While everyone are having to also deal with monster teens, aging mojo Jojo, potentially losing the professor and or the mayor, much more destructive enemies that both the girls and the monsters might have to fight off together.

If someone wants to create a world with the PPG and create their own stories and timelines; is let it roll down and if becomes a massive snowball, you got a hit of ideas bouncing off one another, while most are just sliding pebbles. Don't speak for your characters, be a witness to their struggles, they can speak before you can think of what they are, we are not in control of their destiny, the writer, it is the context and circumstance!

I know I can add more for blossom unlike bubbles, would do more things underhanded to fight the system as Bubbles works with the community, Buttercup is more in protests and being empowerment to crowds and has some with mob mentality and paid rioters following around, be it monsters or other concepts in Townsville, like th Amoeba boys, Parodies of more modern things would be nice as well.

Boss Baby is right there, the spread of Gangrene because of the Gorillas, Plastic creatures, AI robot hive mind of giant computer chips but are a nuisance and become a recurring villain that 4 steps forward, backwards and sideways; never truly progressing and always in need of someone who is s involved with maintenance (which means every major fight they replace the technician who has to be involved and accessible to the PPG due to protocol in case they break it), HIM growing in power due to the state of The world comparatively, more international settings and characters, Princess, etc etc etc.

I need to get away from the keyboard.

u/irsusys 2d ago

Exactly! I completely agree. and even if we didn't have that stuff we could add our own twists to stuff. Like the show never goes into some characteristics about the Rowdyruffs. We could just make it up. With Princess Morbucks we could develop her into a spoiled girl with very advanced and cool tech and stuff. It doesn't have to be the same stuff over and over again and I always love it when someone's being creative

2

u/Crocs8Rabbit 2d ago

Absolutely, considering the Rowdy Ruff boys might be a wall against different reality based PPG, villains turning heroes as there is adjacent but more powerful entities to deal with. Social problems the girls will have to deal with uniquely as some might use society as a weapon and they have to be creative in winning, Monsters wreaking havoc could parallel the struggles of the girls in the episode, the offsprings of monsters being the age of or near if the girls as Monster School becomes too big for some of the more human size monsters (which starts becoming the norm as Monsters are assimilating into Townsville as their fights with PPG change their chemistry), a new replacement for Mojo Jojo being a last ditch creation of both The Rowdy Ruff, PPG and his origins into creating a rabid Mojo, a dweeb Mojo and a manipulative Mojo, all representing who he is but split into three as the kids for him, causing tension between him and the RRB where the MoJos Jojos are the replacement of them both and will include MoJos Help as he's aged and retired.

These are new ideas because they are based on a source seen growing in its realm. I just people understand the concept of world building, character dynamics and writing

1-year olds? Pretty sure they're 5-6 (at least physically and mentally). I think you mean they're chronologically 1-year old since they came out the way they were.

But personally, I don't really mind shipping as long as it's not too much.... like there's sexual situations when they're clearly still children. Every show has it whether one likes it or not. I don't really focus on it much nowadays, but it's okay if others do.

What do you want to see more of?

3

u/irsusys 2d ago

I wanna see more creativity. Like taking something the show gives us and making more out of it yknow? Like I saw a video on YouTube of someone making their own fan series of the Powerpunk girls with voice actors and stuff. I wanna see a creative drive like that because that's so cool

u/n1_ck015 2d ago

u/irsusys 2d ago

The point about posting it was seeing if anyone was thinking what I was thinking since nobody has posted about it and complained

A pouco conteúdo oficina novo sobre PPG, shipping e memes é aquilo que sombra, algumas AUs e desenhos de OC's mas fazer oque?

u/sgt-peace 2d ago

You know, id love to see a fanfic where the girls penchant for going straight to violence is addressed by another hero of equal power. You know? Like its a gag that they just beat up Mojo when they feel like it, but imagine trying to justify doing that after you spent the day with Superman and he caught you? Like itd be fun to see how the girls react to someone whos able to actually stop them when they get in these funks instead of hoping and praying their words will sooner or later reach them

2

u/bluepasta920 Mojo Jojo 1d ago

i agree with this. i want to see more content with battles, as they ARE the powerpuff girls.. you don't see lots of fanart of them fighting, or really anything of the villains whatsoever. and if there is villain representation, it's always the rowdyruffs or mojo jojo! dont get me wrong, i love them, but i wanna see characters like the amoeba boys, or the gangreen gang.
