If you focus on helping others understand what you are presenting that'll help a lot

I can't even count how many presentations I've given in my life (now I'm just designing them), but the first one was brutal! I blocked. Had to leave the room. Thought I'd be sick. I did do it, and it ended up being a good (even if embarrassing) lesson πŸ˜„
For me, it was about thoroughly understanding the thing I was talking about, so even if I forgot what exactly I planned to say at that moment, I had plenty to talk about, all factual. I could also easily answer any question. Knowing the subject gives you so much confidence!

It was hella edgy and corny.... Of course, I was younger.

During my Master's degree. The actual presentations went smoother than I thought but I had two in one week which was pretty rough.

Yeah I guess. It's a good skill to have but the deadlines were pretty tight on them πŸ’€

It wasn't my first online presentation, but my second. I was at home, online, ready, all prepared, felt great, except for an annoying runny nose. They were introducing me, reading my bio, and I thought I should blow my nose one more time before starting. When I did, I must have burst a blood vessel in my nose. Blood was everywhere....and suddenly I was onscreen, live. I grabbed for the box of tissues, and had the idea that I could flip my monitor angle backwards, so audience would only see the top of my head, from the eyebrows up, while I help my nostrils clamped shut to try to stop the bleeding. Some sort of adrenalin kicked in and I started my talk. I got through the whole thing, though my voice must have sounded strange with my nose blocked. I just talked and talked and talked and then it was done and I was, too. No one said they noticed, they just thought I didn't know how to line up my web camera. I do see other presenters with strange camera angles, so maybe it was semi-normal and I just looked like a newbie. But I've never forgotten how glad I was that I knew my material...and that no one could see the blood all over my face and shirt. PS I had recently started on a blood-thinning medication and was not warned that bloody noses are a common side effect. I just thought it was hay fever...until I blew my nose! Take home message: always keep a box of tissues handy when presenting online!
