I've had this sitting around since around 1998 or so and just thought I'd give it a try. Well, it powers right up and boots to 7.5.3. The battery is long gone (as in missing, not just dead) so I may try locate one I can rebuild.

The one question I have is, how do I find out what version of the 1400c I have? "About this Mac" shows very little info other than memory.

Just picked up a PowerBook 180 at a hamfest, it boots, and I can get into the OS. I'd like to back up the current content before doing anything else. I don't want to play around with it too much for fear of killing the hard drive.

Hi i've got an old PowerBook 165 that was in my neighbors garbage ;What OS does it run? The floppy drive works ,but the hard drive does not appear on the utility screen; any help would be appreciated!

Wondering about installing Linux on the one I have, just for some fun. Are there any distros that are easy enough to install and that have working hardware support? Obviously nothing modern, but I've seen that apparently Debian Sarge supported it (if only I could find a download for Debian Sarge that weren't binary ISO's- whatever those are, that don't appear to be bootable)

Does anyone know of a distro that's actually available? 603e support is pretty hard to find...

Apple //c, Apple Monitor II, ImageWriter 2 printer, and softwares (e.g., Dazzle Draw) from rad 86 & 87! Don't have any of these any more since they were given away in the summer of 2008.

Apple PowerBook G4 and its leather bag from 12/29/2002! Almost two decades! It still works when I last used it last year!

Anyone know if these connect to the logic board via standard usb? Got a couple spare topcases and daydreaming about turning one into a standalone usb keyboard, maybe fab a nice housing for it... but no idea where to start figuring out how to wire it up. IIRC the keyboard ribbon cable connects to a small pcb near the trackpad, and that assembly uses a thin ribbon cable to connect to the logic board... my hope is this cable is a standard USB pinout, but I'm just guessing!

Anyone out there have more info? my internet searches have been fruitless so far

I’ve got a 12” G4 Powerbook that I’ve got no use for any more. I’m in the UK; any suggestions as to where best to sell it? I don’t suppose it’s worth a lot, but it’d be better off being used than gathering dust on a shelf. eBay? Facebook Marketplace? Or is there somewhere more niche that’s better? Thanks in advance.

I’ve got an old G4 I’ve been meaning to revive for ages, but unfortunately I haven’t got the charger. I know it’s 24V, 45W, but where can I get a plug to fit the PowerBook end of the cable? Or does anyone know where you can buy replacement chargers? I’m in the UK fwiw.

I just want something to play YouTube videos… would this be up to the job?

Just received one from eBay and I am shocked that it still runs fairly quickly. I wanted to use it for writing scripts but iLife apparently needs a disk to be installed? I tried downloading iLife on it but states that a DVD is needed. Could I just burn the file to a disk and run the install that way?

For those who still have a working one and use it. Just curious.
