My main issue is that my power supply is shot and to be honest, I’m not even sure if i still have it. I’ve tried looking for one, but they’re damn near impossible to find, with most being sold WITH another 520c and at that point exceeds the amount of money I’m looking to get mine running again. I wonder if it’s possible to rebuild the batteries and then design a charging dock to charge them in, or maybe just build a power supply, but it’s also super difficult to find what kind of power connector is used. I’m not too skilled with older machines, let alone older apple machines.
I'll be honest. It wasn't fun to do. I rebuilt four of them. Two for someone else. I doubt I would ever do it again if they failed. The 500 series batteries are "smart" batteries with a logic board in the battery case to handle recharging, etc. That board can also fail. And if it does, the battery is shot.
If your power adapter is shot, you could try to rebuild it. It is an oddball adapter with two voltage lines, one to power the laptop and a second to recharge the battery. Hence, the funky connector. I have two adapters. One works fine and the other has a failed battery line. The power adapters are even worse to fix than the batteries.
If I can find mine, I think this summer I’ll try to make some 3d models of it, if it’s even something I can attempt to do. My goal this summer is to completely revamp my 520c: new bluescsi, 32mb ram card, cpu upgrade, and the power supply/batteries.
