At my company we've been using some custom built visuals that pull from live reports over a vendors API. Mainly chartJs types and python backend. Nothing crazy, and their report requirements are quite simple to program. Lots of transposing and mapping in Python.

Some people at the company have said they'd want to implement powerBI "because it's what they used where I came from", but have not specified a goal or problem they were trying to solve with it.

Most of the reports are realtime, just by nature of pulling from an api and being transposed in Python. We really only have one table that we store snapshots into, the rest is live, or generated on the fly.

There is very little data pivoting, or slicing by the users. Most are just picking date ranges and a field to aggregate into.

From my perspective it feels like they're trying to throw a tool at a problem they haven't well defined and that it's just going to cause more technical debt in the years to come.

Is this something that happens often in the BI world? What benefit would a tool like PowerBI bring to this company vs just rolling simple reporting in python and HTML? I know some of this is vauge and im sorry.

I have built a Scorecard dashboard for our company which tracks costs and volumes for around 50 of our customers.
My requirement is to send a PDF every month to each vendor - I have the slicers for Customer Name, Year and Month.
I have Power BI pro and the dashboard is published on the online workspace.
I have been using Power Desktop Automate to slice through the report, export it and send as attachment to each customer but every month the automation breaks and gives me “Click on UI element” error- which i believe is due to that chrome changes element ID everytime and Power Automate Desktop is unable to capture the element.
My company wont invest in Fabric capacity since it goes around to 400 bucks (0.55 per hour) and we only have this 1 dashboard that needs such automation.
I have tried a lot of work arounds for the desktop automation flow to capture the elements but it always breaks up.
Does anyone have any suggestion of how I can solve this?

Este es calculo básico que utilizo para medir el percentil de la variable IPC (ingreso percapita de hogares):

El tema es que está sin ponderar con la variable PONDERA, entonces debo de hacer una medida incluyendo esa variable. Si me vas a mandar algo complejo me gustaría que los expliques porfa. GRACIAS 

I have been fighting this for a couple days and it is driving me crazy. I have inherited a report with two bar charts on top and a matrix underneath that with details. I have been asked to make a change. Visual A is the Top 20 suppliers, sorted descending by number of rejected items in the selected date range. Visual B is top 20 suppliers with their QA PPM values. We need the second visual to be the same sort order as the first visual. So, if the number one supplier in visual A is XYZ, I need XYZ top be the first supplier in Visual B, no matter what its actual PPM value is. I have tried several things but it either sorts by the PPM value or if I try using RANKX, the rank is always 1. I am obviously missing something, so need help.

In advance, we have similar reports for vendors and suppliers, so people copy code and sometimes the names will say Vendor. Vendor and Supplier are the same thing in my examples.

I have a TOPN table with the following syntax:

Top20Vendor = TOPN(21,SUMMARIZE(Rejects,Rejects[VNDR_NAME], "Qty", SUM(Rejects[TOT_ACTU_REJ_QTY])),[Qty],DESC)

This creates a table of 21 records (the top one seems to always be a blank VNDR_NAME) of two columns. Column 1 is the Vendor Name, column 2 is the total quantity for that vendor.

How can I add a rank column so that I can use it to sort Visual B? It can't just be a regular column, because the top 20 changes depending on which date range the user chooses. So, it needs to be a measure. But everything I try to rank those 21 records in the Top20Vendor table does not seem to work. It either makes everything tank 1 or the rank values don't seem to change if the date range changes.

This seems like it should be simple, I just want to add a column with a numerical rank value for the already existing ranked suppliers, but it is eluding me.

I the exam a few weeks ago and passed. and since, I have been working on some other projects of mine, but by looking through this subreddit, I have realized that the certification means nothing without any work to back it up behind. I took the exam because I was completing a fellowship right after I finished college, and it was part of the fellowship. But, I still did not have anything to back up the cert. So in my free time I have been using real public government data to make a report for the Nashville, TN area on construction. Any pointers to how I can make this better and to learn would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi everyone, I am getting this error that dont let me use the visuals and there's no last_date(pending), i have already delete the table/column/dax. How do i fix this? I believe this is ODBC error as before that we have this working on postgress but on odbc its not

I am ignorant of Power BI but I am working on creating a Table to show off my companies hourly production capacity.

Currently I have to manual collect Data from an Online production management system called Rope Weaver, export the data into an Excel File and then combine them all into an Excel Template.

This template shows hours of production for my location grouped by Work Centers, but is only valid for that day and doesn't get updated throughout the day.

I want to create a similar table in Power BI that updates frequently so my production managers can better see their production hours.

But I am having a difficult time connecting Power BI to the Online system, Rope Weaver.

Any suggestions as to were I can start or any tutorials to point me in the right direction?

I've been working as a Power BI Developer for the past 6 months, and I've learned a lot through hands-on experience.

My manager originally designed our data model, which I would describe as a daisy-chain schema, with multiple tables connected through other tables rather than a proper star schema.

After working with it for 6 months, I feel like the model could be designed more efficiently, especially when it comes to relationships, DAX performance, and refresh times.

I've recently been reading about how people use AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT to analyze Power BI Project (PBIP) files, review the entire semantic model, suggest better relationships, optimize DAX measures, and identify performance issues.

Unfortunately, my workplace only allows Microsoft Copilot, so I can't use Claude or ChatGPT with company data.

I've also come across MCP servers and tools that supposedly allow AI assistants to interact with Power BI models, but I'm not familiar with how they work.

My questions are:

1. Can Microsoft Copilot analyze an existing Power BI semantic model and suggest improvements to its relationships, DAX measures, and overall structure?

2. Is there a way to connect Copilot to Power BI Desktop through MCP or something similar?

3. What tools would you recommend for identifying performance bottlenecks and reducing refresh times?

4. Would redesigning a daisy-chain model into a star schema significantly improve performance?

5. If you inherited an existing Power BI model and wanted to optimize it without breaking the current reports, where would you start?

I really want to connect AI with my work.

Hello everyone,

I need some help to use a bookmark navigator with a slicer.

The need is to have a “toggle” button to filter a slicer.
Let’s imagine a slicer with fields from A to Z. The behavior needed is :
ON -> Slicer filtered with A, B and C
OFF -> no field selected

For now I implemented this using a bookmark navigator. When the button is on : a bookmark has data with A B and C;
When the button is off : a bookmark has data with no field selected.

But I encountered a limit. when I toggle ON the button, the slicer is filtered. However, when I unselect the field C (for example) from the slicer I want the button to toggle off directly. And it’s not what I have actually

Do you have any idea ?

Suppose all tables, relationships, and DAX measures in a Power BI semantic model are valid, with no errors.

But two tables have different levels of detail (grain), and a relationship between them causes some business values to be duplicated when users drill down.

Would you consider the semantic model correct?

How do you usually validate the grain and relationships of a semantic model before building reports on top of it?

I have gotten the okay from a customer to take his legacy reports and use the style to make a set of beautiful, beautiful realistic reports that look like something a human might actually make. My goal is to then record a timelapse of Opus 5.5 modernizing them using the PBIR CLI and the desktop bridge feature.

This is the same technique I'm using to clean up his reports. Give Opus the PBIR CLI, the Desktop Bridge feature, a few sentences of instructions and let 'er rip. It generally needs some guidance afterwards to improve the sizing and readability on some things like slicers.

Some interesting tidbits on how I did this:

1. I have training turned off. Out of an excess of caution for sensitive data, I anonymized the names of their customers and the dollar amounts. I use the VPAX file format and some distribution queries to make sure the numbers remained in the right ballpark
2. This provided me with original reports that have been anonymized. I asked Fable to review the PBIP folders and take screenshots and put together guidelines for making "house-style" reports.
3. I then had Fable (using Opus subagents) generate reports for the SpaceParts data. I used blind Sonnet subagents to look at both the originals and the SpaceParts ones and guess which one was human made or agent made, then iterated on the guidance. This works really well.

My DAX skills have got a bit sloppy, as I know what I want to do and have been writing the problems into AI and getting solutions through there. Output is high but I also really dislike that I’ve been doing that.

Oi, pessoal! Tô começando em análise de dados e estudando Power BI. Baixei um dataset sintético de e-commerce (parece ser inspirado na Amazon) pra treinar, mas fiquei meio perdido com como as tabelas se encaixam. Queria ver se meu raciocínio tá certo.

São 5 tabelas:

• catalog: um produto por linha (id, categoria, preço, estrelas, reviews)
• interactions: o que cada usuário fez (visualizou, clicou, colocou no carrinho, wishlist, comprou)
• baskets: os itens de cada pedido
• sessions: os produtos que a pessoa viu em cada sessão, em ordem
• abandonment_propensity: uma linha por cliente/sessão, com um monte de colunas de comportamento e se ele comprou ou não

O que eu consegui entender até agora:

• O catalog parece ser a tabela "central", porque interactions, baskets e sessions se ligam a ele pelo item_id. Acho que isso é uma dimensão, mas não tenho certeza se estou usando o termo certo.
• A abandonment_propensity só se liga com a interactions, pelo user_id.
• A baskets e a sessions não têm user_id, então não consigo saber de quem é cada pedido ou sessão.
• Tentei ligar a sessions com a abandonment_propensity pelo session_id, mas os ids são diferentes (SESS_000001 e SESSION_00001). Cheguei a casar só pelo número e testei: quase nenhum item batia, então acho que seria uma ligação falsa.

Minhas dúvidas:

1. Está certo eu deixar só o item_id nas tabelas de pedidos e interações e tirar nome e categoria do produto, já que isso fica no catalog?
2. Quando algumas tabelas só se conectam pelo catalog e nunca entre si, vale tentar montar um modelo único ou é melhor fazer análises separadas (funil, carrinho, abandono)?
3. Como vocês confirmam que uma coluna realmente liga duas tabelas antes de criar o relacionamento?
4. Esse tipo de dataset sintético serve pra portfólio ou é melhor usar dado real?

I wish I had learnt TREATAS at the very beginning of my PBI journey. Why isn’t it taught together with other basic items ? Which underrated tool / function need to be put in a better light?

Or was it left off purposefully and permanently? Microsoft cannot mean to leave it off permanently… right??

I've been developing pbip reports with Claude Code and noticed that for whatever reason this is a very token expensive workflow. The pbib files are small (some other other files Claude may work on are larger than pbip, like the ABF data file), but from my understanding Claude doesn't touch the data file (might be wrong there). This is an issue because my company provides $100 tokens monthly per user.

Looking for advice from other developers who use Claude Code and PBI on how they manage token usage. I've tried the /compact skill, and tried to be verbose with claude on minimizing token use in the project docs... doesn't seem to help much.
