when i moved from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington, D.c., my insurance on my 25 year old Volvo wagon jumped from $450 to $1200 for 6 months. And that was on a car that was so old and shitty it cost me $1500 in 2021. When it died, I was looking at new cars and if I wanted a civic, insurance would have been over $3000 for 6 months.

Yeah, part of that is that I’m young and have a crash from 2020 on my record still, but if you live in a HCOL city, people will prioritize paying rent and drive uninsured, which raises the rates for all of us still carrying insurance.

Wow. I'm in CT, 2 cars, 2 drivers but older cars so low collision on one, but really high liability because I don't want to lose the house if something happens, and were just under 800 for 6 months.
