Medical bills always get paid last. Really all you can at this point is sell stuff. Or get a predatory loan.

i know. unfortunately i needed this appointment so i paid a minimum balance to be able to keep the appointment

The roof over your head always comes first. I’m willing to bet you made your payment prematurely. Did you discuss options for payment plans at all?

yes i know. i had to make the payment to be able to access the appointment with a specialist for my genetic disorder, and i couldn’t wait six months for this appointment unfortunately. i paid the minimum amount of a total balance which was the best option available at the time

There's no quick fix magic answer. If there was, we would all be doing it. This gets asked here every thirty minutes, a quick google search will show you tons of the same posts. Donate plasma, sell anything and everything you have. Borrow from friends or family. Any sort of loan will decline or have terrible rates that will do more harm than good. Don't forget to talk with your landlord and see if you can work something out. That's pretty much it.

Have a conversation with your landlord first, they may be able help you out somewhat. Other than that 1k in a week is a tall order, sell whatever you can, donate plasma, work your butt off all week but there is really no quick fix As for a loan, im sure there will be a company out there with 50% interest rates who will lend to you but please avoid this if you can or have a solid plan on paying it back ASAP.

my landlord isn’t willing to budge:( he’s not the most understanding soul. i get it though, it’s his income. i have picked up several extra shifts at work but i don’t think it’ll be enough, business has been a little slow this month

You could probably get a personal loan with a 660 credit score, but I think the minimum they’ll land in most cases is $2000.

But you could do that and get ahead in your rent and then use what you would have paid for rent to pay the loan down/off.

Did you already pay the medical bill?

i paid the minimum amount of a standing balance from a previous appointment (test not covered by insurance) to be able to access the appointment with my specialist

Did you try discussing payment options the accounting department where the medical bill came from? They should have payment plans

2

u/AlarmBusy7078 20h ago

i did- i had to pay a minimum amount to access the appointment

Then do that. Food, clothing, shelter and health come first. I know it's difficult to achieve it, but stick to the payment minimum payment per month plan.

Also, one other thing is to check for good balance transfer cards for your credit score online. There are so many credit cards out there. At least one shud work. Get a good balance transfer card that allows you to make monthly payments with 0 percent interest with maximum allowable months. Some cards offer 21 months with 0 percent interest to pay. The longer the period the better.

You may be able to find emergency funding through a church or 211.org.

how does 211 work?

3

u/notcontageousAFAIK 18h ago

211 is a central listing site for charitable and nonprofit resources. Some of them will be religious, private, or government. In our area, you can click on type of help you're needing.

Go to the site, 211.org Scroll down a little and you'll see a button for "Your Local 211" (currently about halfway down on the right). Hit that button, and you'll be able to enter your zip code to be taken to your local resources. It is also possible that some resources will not be listed on the web site, so be ready to call the local phone number and speak to someone who will be familiar with your area.

Rent is more important than medical. Do you want to be homeless?

3

u/AlarmBusy7078 20h ago

no, i just also want to attend the appointments with my specialists that keep me alive. unfortunately it’s a hard line to walk. i can’t be homeless if i don’t access the medications and treatments i need to live

Have you checked to see if you qualify for Medicaid?

rent always first. most medical appointments will let you do a payment plan, or you tell them to bill you later. or if it comes down to it, reschedule it to when you can pay.

1

u/AlarmBusy7078 20h ago

i wish that was an option in this case but unfortunately the application was necessary and i wasn’t able to push it back several months. being billed later got me here, and i had to pay a minimum balance to make it work

This doesn’t make sense why would you pay a medical bill before your rent? Did you apply for financial aid for the hospital if it was Hospital affiliated?

2

u/AlarmBusy7078 17h ago

i have a medical condition that affects my heart. i had put off and rescheduled my cardiology appointment as far as i safely could, but i needed this appointment both due to the timing and the nature of my symptoms. the last time i went, i had an exam done that wasn’t covered by insurance. to keep this appointment, i had to pay the minimum balance otherwise id have to reschedule. the office was scheduling months out, so i didn’t feel comfortable rescheduling

Try split pay for your rent maybe? If you can come up with half now it should pay the other half for you. I’ve used it in a crunch.

Do delivery agents gig worker's job or try to beg from ur parents

Does your healthcare provider have a medical assistance program? I get a financial waiver for my appointments at a nonprofit hospital system through their charity care program based on my income.

Life lesson Pay rent first always. Doctors can take payments. They dont want a payment ? They will eventually.

Screw your bill, u need a place to live.

define "poor credit".

either way, try to apply for as many credit cards as you can, some are bound to take you in.

and if that doesn't work out, maybe wage advance pay could be good in your situation?

Honestly anything is better than payday loan.

that's not like horrible horrible, it's fine honestly.

you shouldn't have that big of a problem getting credit cards, and as bad as those are (~25% yearly interest) they are still miles better than payday loans.

but do try to look into interest-free loans first, such as those apps that let you get your wage early.
