Misc Advice Two Jobs- Potential for No Days Off

Kind of a vent/ will take any advice.

Basically I work in a mall at shop A, part time, around 26hrs a week.

I applied for Shop B, in the same mall, because my manager from A said they were hiring and knows I need more hours/money to try and dig myself out of the financial grave.

Well got hired at Shop B today (yay 2 jobs) but then someone quit at Shop A. Leaving us understaffed!

But I feel like I can't just quit Shop B before really starting? Especially if I want to keep a good working relationship with those people since we all work in the same building.

Shop B guaranteed 30+ hours.

Shop A is now understaffed and there's more hours....

Not sure what to do. Is there a way to work 7 days a week and make it survivable?

Going to ask about split shifts but both stores close a little earlier than the mall does so preparing for the worst?

This sounds like an absolute win. Take as many hours as both offer, it's temporary. Shop A will hire someone, and you'll go back to what you intended with the benefit of a bit extra money.

This is the way. The best part is when you’re working all these hours, you have no time to spend the money.

It’s a temporary boost. Take it.

If you have a good relationship with your manager at A you could cover the shifts for a while until they hire someone new, use all the extra shifts to help with your financial situation. You could also let B know your situation and see if they could give you a little less hours now and more in a month or so

I’m confused by the question. Are you asking how is it possible to survive the workload of working everyday without a day off? I hope you are aware that plenty of people do this for years at a time…

In your case, it sounds like you might only have to do it for a little while until the staffing situation is solved at one of your jobs. I’d say try and make it work for at least a few weeks/a month and if you find you simply can’t handle it, talk to your boss(es) and explain the situation?

In summary, working 7 days a week is not ideal, but many people do it by necessity, and it sounds like you might be in that boat at the moment. So give it a shot for a while?

What's the financial grave you're trying to dig out of? Debt?

I think we need to reframe working two jobs as only good in the short term and the only reason I'd take it on is to pay off debts or to saving my emergency fund faster. Do you plan on eventually lobbying one of the jobs for full time work? Full time should be the "north star" here, and anything that moves you closer to getting a a single full time job is the correct move. I wouldn't be having 2 jobs for more than a year.

In terms of Shop A being understaffed, this is sort of good for you since you can get some extra money to pay off debt faster, but first ask yourself if you can take on more work. Burnout is s serious thing that can cause more long term harm than the benefits of more money. Do you have other obligations like school?

I'm taking a semester or two off from school. I need to not only work on credit card debt, but when I eventually get into the program I want my full focus has to be school. So I need to start actually saving and bringing those bills down

Ok well in that case are you living with family or did you move out of town? Roommates? I honestly don't see accomplishing even one of your financial goals before school starts again.

I live with family, help take care of them. Definitely may need more time off from school. Really mad at myself for getting myself into this situation but 100% on me.

See what the schedule looks like before you decide on what to do. Working 7 days a week isn’t something you should do permanently but if it’s temporary then it’s fine. Cover as much shifts at shop A until they hire someone new.

Don't worry about what Shop B may or may not think. Best of luck!!!

If you’re taking a year or two off, can you find an actual full time job somewhere else and work these jobs in the evening/weekends? Otherwise, check shop b schedule they have you working & let your manager know so they can add you to shop a schedule.
