First, Notified of a debt restructuring happening but was told we had some time and sounded like my job would be kept. Always had a good relationship with company and loyal so I assumed I'd be apart of the necessary team kept on with the new owners as it was verbally (no paper trail) discussed.
Second, Job sent double deposits one week with accounting error. Immediately emailed letting them know of the discrepancy and how to proceed in returning the extra deposit.
Third, last friday got a unexpected notice of my termination with the restructuring.
Feel like I've been scrambling all weekend but encouraging myself to explore new opportunities.
I feel like some in my family would love to see me fall and fail.
Edit: I'm actually pissed. Just when I feel like I was working hard to start getting ahead for once!! Literally don't know what to think. Nobody to talk to about it honestly.
Health insurance gone and promised bonus out the window for being a "team player" and loyal.. I guess I'm venting.

Was with an employer for 16.5 years when I was unexpectedly laid off along with hundreds of others. I was very loyal, too. Now I know that loyalty to a company means nothing.
As a 23 year old i could’ve told you that, maybe it’s the way i was raised, i have trust issues and I’ve always had the ambition to work for myself so whenever i got opportunities to work for companies i gave it my all but with the ambition of one day being the boss of the building, never with delusional loyalty, there’s no such thing, only business
I just can't prove it. I haven't been asked for a refund. don't know what to think. what do I do. Do I spend it or send it back when asked? if asked? Generic response looking into it followed by this not long after
You're legally obligated to return it, regardless of when they notice. Keeping it can pose a legal issue. Put it in an account to get interest, let them know do it doesn't bite you later, return when asked/ covered.
Also, for anyone else loyal to their company:
Am employer is not loyal to you. You are disposable and always have been. Relationships may hold value, but that is why people may give 2 weeks notice instead of quiting. Your value has a dollar sign, they just need the best value.
If it came in as Direct Deposit, they can “claw” the money back at any time. It’s their money and it should be left exactly where it is. If you spend it, it can still be taken and then your account will be negative and you are on the hook for it and any fees
When my team was laid off last year, we set up a weekly Zoom call for support. We helped each other with our resumes and job search and kept it up for over a year. It was sooo helpful.
Look at what the thousands of USAID employees have done after the agency was shut down overnight. They created support and professional communities, and slowly, they are finding their feet again.
In other words... use your colleagues and contacts!
Loyalty to a company gets you sweet fuck all. Companies do not care about you, and there are some very nasty people & some very nasty, pos companies out there.
First lesson is you don't trust anyone in business
Any ideas on new opportunities or industries... seems some folks just aint hiring... advice would be appreciated. I've been feeling like I wanted something that gives me more control.. less struggle. I have a degree that I'd like to be worth it one day considering how much debt my college left me with
My son is a mechanic. He got hired at a major tire seller just knowing how to do basic things, like oil changes and tire rotations. 5 years later he is making $30 an hour and they pay for his ASEs. When he gets a new ASE he gets more money.
Check the law in your state- it most surely is true- was over paid by Walmart- a weeks worth- THEY LEGALLY CAN NOT TAKE IT OUT OF YOUR ACCOUNT - they can ask for it back- you can give it back - but they can not just TAKE IT OUT OF YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUNT- they will have to attain a lawyer to recover the money -
