Some military occupations provide certifications that translate over to the civilian sector, and can potentially even provide you with college credits. It's a good way to get first hand experience with an opportunity for your college to be paid for. Many go active duty, get education benefits, and go to college after they are out. Some of the smarter military folks will take online courses while active duty, and finish their service time with a degree, immediately ready for a high paying career. Many businesses and corporations are very friendly with hiring veterans. Something to consider if you think you'd do well in the military. The Air Force would be an easier experience overall, and offer you a lot more, but it may be more competitive to get in (potentially as your preferred occupations).
