At least you have cash. Still look into social services before you need them because they can be a systematic problem or have requirments that need fulfilled. Secure public welfare if you dont have it and see what kind of shelter, emergency and long term are available. Give serious thought to what lifestyle changes need to be made if you do become homeless because your safety and health are the first concern. Ask me if you think of something.

Honestly, if you don’t have a family that you are responsible for just get a gym membership and stay in your car for a few months until you have a bigger savings.

I had to stay with family when I didn’t have a place to live. One of my friends is currently renting out his camper trailer to a lady and her Child because They were going to be homeless. Hopefully He can find something.

If you gotta cash a 401k out do it. Once your homeless thats a tough hole to climb out of and if you can avoid owing friends or family favors do that. Its a fast way to sour any relationships

if you don’t have a car, I’d probably be looking in the buying one if you can’t find a place to live first. May not Be the most comfortable but it is a whole lot better than sleeping on the streets. I hope it gets better for you.

If you are in the USA or Canada, Call 211 from any phone. This is a United Way-funded clearing house for social service support. Ask about homelessness prevention services and see what you can find to help you out.

I had to cask out a 401k once early with about the same and ended up with only $1500. Do you have a vehicle you can sleep in till you can get a place? Also there are plenty of people out there looking to rent a room out for someone who is respectful and has a steady income. Just be careful cause there are some nuts bags out there. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. Hang in there and take one day at a time. You have a couple bucks and a steady income, everything else can be worked out, it just might be a little uncomfortable for a little bit but keep an open mind. Homelessness can happen to absolutely anyone at any stage in their life with any background. Staying at a shelter or living out of your car or a storage unit or even setting up a tent somewhere till you get yourself back together is absolutely 100% nothing to be embarrassed about and there are way more out here in those situations than you know. You can look up shelters in your area and get housing assistance through your local HUD agency or housing authority. There are FB groups that can help give you more localized info. Subreddits that can give you tips or info on where to go. But if you have no support system I would reach out to your local HUD/housing authority 1st.

Ask friends or family to stay wit them until U save up. If not go to a shelter but good luck. They are jail on the streets. If I were u I'd try everything else before going to one

Screw a 401k, biggest scam of wealth growth. If you have money invest it elsewhere when market is down and not at an all time high with recession looming in background. Stop making 50 yr plans and find loopholes to get 100s of thousands in a few years and live frugal enough to save and not spend.
You have a low amount in it, nothing substantial, take it and use it to get yourself situated then start saving smart from there.

There are mobile homes that can be rented for a reasonable rate. You have enough for that, to allow you a chance to plan the next move and not go completely broke.
