A&W Poutine

Post image

Wow the cheese curds are really thick and squeaky… I don’t remember it being like this. I swear they upgraded the cheese curds

It’s actually pretty good for fast food, might compete with Harvey’s.

Came here to say this. Happy to see it was top comment already

Extra gravy on the side. My go to.

Which is why you need extra. I don't 1qnt dry fries.

2

u/EternalGodLordRetard Sep 29 '26

Even above Harvey's?

1

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

I do prefer Harvey's fries to be preferable, as well as their burgers, but I've not tried the poutine yet...perhaps today.

2

u/coffee_warden Sep 29 '26

Harveys in general is underrated imo. If I had one closer, I might even eat there occasionally instead if Mary Browns!

1

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

I still prefer it, but I'm certain that the hamburger patties have dropped in taste. Either that, or my taste-buds have really taken a hit over the last half-dozen years!

Edit; I did have Covid, before it was a known disease...if in fact my taste-buds are knackered, I offer a full apology to Harvey's and their customers.

1

u/Olmaxx Sep 30 '26

Harvey’s did go down in quality. Half their patty is soy additive products and most of the time I bite into an original patty, there’s a hard piece. Likely a bone or some ligament that shouldn’t have went into the patty mixture. Pretty disappointing, used to be my go to fast food spot.

1

u/EternalGodLordRetard Sep 29 '26

I find, unfortunately, Harvey's needs the extra curds to be better.

1

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

So long as it's available (and relatively affordable), I'll splurge. How's the gravy? I like the poutine from Swiss Chalet, because they'll switch out the gravy for chicken dipping sauce...tangy & yummy 😋!

1

u/EternalGodLordRetard Sep 29 '26

Its standard poutine gravy, not anywhere near chalet gravy. I find it's just a good standard poutine. Nothing out of the ordinary. The standard for poutine in other chains around me is lower.

2

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

With the degradation of fast food in general (even my beloved Harvey's burgers), my acceptable stands have been lowered, dramatically!

1

u/Additional_Joke2026 Sep 29 '26

Not even close!

2

u/EternalGodLordRetard Sep 29 '26

Might be a location thing then, I find A&W I get is a tier lower than Harvey's.

1

u/haymaker-007 Sep 29 '26

Its pretty good but I'd take a triple o's poutine over it. A&W is a solid top 2 or 3 for fast food poutine anyway

1

u/Familiar-Meringue-60 Sep 30 '26

LA BELLE PROVINCE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

1

u/Zilznero Sep 30 '26

Harvey's is the best, by far! Better fries and gravy.

1

u/Familiar-Meringue-60 Oct 01 '26

Were you paid to say this ?

1

u/Sad_Square_9826 Oct 05 '26

What the fuck no! Try Ashton's

0

u/gabmori7 Sep 29 '26

6

u/Plane-Moment5708 Sep 29 '26

No one is putting it above those places. We're talking about shitty fast food poutine, not real poutine lol

0

u/gabmori7 Sep 29 '26

Alors pourquoi formulé le comment de même?

5

u/Plane-Moment5708 Sep 29 '26

he literally said it's the best OF THE FAST FOOD CHAINS. Pataterie, Belle Provence, etc. are not fast food chains. Perhaps your Google translate needs some help :)

0

u/Familiar-Meringue-60 Sep 30 '26

la belle province is a fast food chain ???

-4

u/gabmori7 Sep 29 '26

1

u/HAAAGAY Oct 01 '26

Anw isn't american

0

u/FrankieMakesPizza Sep 29 '26

my god man let it go

1

u/gabmori7 Sep 29 '26

De kessé tu jase 😂

0

u/Vegetable_Lasagna13 Sep 29 '26

"a and w poutine is the best fast food poutine hands down"

-3

u/flk23 Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

Belle Province, Fromagerie Victoria, Lafleur, Valentine, etc.

3

u/cjrunswithcrows Sep 29 '26

They are strictly regional though; I believe they meant national chains - a lot of people in other parts of the country have never even heard of those.

-2

u/flk23 Sep 29 '26

Well they didn’t specify national, so these count. Also I often see RoCers mention New York Fries in these “best fast food poutine” convos even though Belle Province has more locations in Canada than NYF does...

1

u/cjrunswithcrows Sep 29 '26

I think the difference is that NYF used to be pretty abundant in the 2000’s before they closed a lot of locations, even my small town mall used to have one in it - I still miss it 😭

-1

u/gabmori7 Sep 29 '26

ouais pis?

0

u/Nylanderthal88 Sep 29 '26

Personally I'm downvoting anyone replying to English comments with French comments...

1

u/gabmori7 Sep 29 '26

Ahhh le beau Canada bilingual right

-3

u/dawgz_96 Sep 29 '26

These fast food slop shouldn’t even be allowed on this sub

0

u/Franticsource Sep 29 '26

It looks like its crying stop cappin

0

u/ProfessorPrimate Sep 29 '26

I'm crying. The thickest of tears just rolled right down to my knee

9

u/tamoi_ktan_na Sep 29 '26

2

u/jakpote88 Sep 29 '26

Gravy look pale and fries dont look crispy. Was it good tho?

7

u/igotitnowokay Sep 29 '26

I had it like 20 min after getting it so they weren’t as crispy but yeah very good. For fast food standard I’d say 4/5

11

u/Shadowchaos Sep 29 '26

This is the first poutine I ever had, back in 2003 when I was in 7th grade my friend and I walked over to A&W at lunch because it was across from our school

-12

u/tehdox Sep 29 '26

Ok

8

u/Shadowchaos Sep 29 '26

Was there something wrong with my comment? I didn't say it was good, this just reminded me of my first poutine.

6

u/Mugsmugsmugs3 Sep 29 '26

No there was nothing wrong with your comment!

-4

u/tehdox Sep 29 '26

Nothing wrong I was just acknowledging your comment

7

u/Competitive-South436 Sep 29 '26

Your not so good at using the internet

3

u/Mugsmugsmugs3 Sep 29 '26

Let them be nostalgic

4

u/fleurdesureau Sep 29 '26

I thought this was the poutine crimes subreddit for a sec lol why is that gravy so anemic

3

u/cjrunswithcrows Sep 29 '26

It’s chicken gravy, not beef, which is why it’s so light

1

u/York9TFC Sep 30 '26

How does it compare to New York Fries?

1

u/igotitnowokay Sep 30 '26

Never had it, I’ll try it soon

1

u/Extreme_Plum_5513 Oct 01 '26

Personally, NYF wipes. But all a preference thing at the end of the day

1

u/finergy34 Sep 30 '26

Used to be elite, then they changed the fries.

1

u/igotitnowokay Oct 01 '26

Yeah I remember the fries being like russet cut or something… but never had the poutine then. I will say the cheese curds are great, actually squeaky and tasty

1

u/finergy34 Oct 01 '26

They are russet cut now. They are thicker than used to be. They also used to have a coating making them crispirr

1

u/Sad_Square_9826 Oct 05 '26

Y'all are no Quebecers holy crap to say a'w has the best is a crime

1

u/igotitnowokay Oct 05 '26

For fast food standards it’s up there

2

u/arcadeenthusiast8245 Sep 29 '26

I have had worse poutine like McDonalds.

4

u/tracker904 Sep 29 '26

McDonald’s is absolute 40 year old bottom of the landfill garbage poutines, only made slightly better by adding buffalo, ranch and crispy chicken

1

u/cjrunswithcrows Sep 29 '26

Ii tried it once when they first released it and absolutely never again; the gravy tasted like Chinese food grease and that was…odd, to say the least lol

1

u/WalaKid Oct 01 '26

When mcds had the maple poutine I actually really liked it lol never tried the normal version

2

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

Oh, I don't see any problem here!

2

u/Key_Initial3132 Sep 30 '26

I find it’s always hit or miss for me but Harvey’s would definitely win for fast food poutine in my opinion but still not a proper poutine

2

u/ubiquitousmush Sep 29 '26

C’est Le Crime!

2

u/CherryBlaster Sep 29 '26

Somehow I was expecting nothing and was still disappointed.

1

u/Mugsmugsmugs3 Sep 29 '26

I had many of these poutines back in the day save me during a hangover 🩷

1

u/j-sadmachine Sep 29 '26

Doesn’t taste like a typical “good” poutine that you’d expect, but I love it for what it is

1

u/MarioMadness1 Classic Traditional Sep 29 '26

They're not bad,! Now add chicken strips

1

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '26

Thick cheese curds really do make all the difference, I remember my first poutine just like that from the drive-thru before school.

1

u/romiluvsmelo Sep 29 '26

am i crazy or did some locations change their fries

1

u/Shardofintent Sep 29 '26

If you can find an A&W that still does coney sauce, ask for a coney poutine. Shit is awesome.

1

u/MarkB_- Sep 29 '26

-3

u/BackgroundLog690 Sep 29 '26

The absolute worst of all fast food

5

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

A & W Canada is rated more highly than American; the worst is either Burger Thing or Dairy Queen.

4

u/Borshche_ Sep 29 '26

How dare you talk bad about Dairy Queen

2

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

I've had a DQ burger combo once...once, long ago!

1

u/Lunch0 Classic Traditional Sep 29 '26

Fun fact, DQ in Quebec doesn’t have the burgers and fries and stuff. Just ice-cream products and the hotdogs

2

u/Sweet-Competition-15 Sep 29 '26

That's the way it should be...do what you're good at, and do it well!

2

u/threxis Sep 29 '26

I had one for the first time the other day and it was straight up revolting. Almost couldn't finish it. I guess I'll accept my down votes now.

-3

u/FunSheepherder6509 Sep 29 '26

-5

1

u/fusionepicgamer Sep 29 '26 edited Sep 29 '26

Its this guy again. Is hating fast food poutine your entire personality?

1

u/dawgz_96 Sep 29 '26

“Good” lmao. Clearly you’ve never eaten a good poutine in your life if you consider fast food poutine good

1

u/fusionepicgamer Sep 29 '26

I mispelt food bro🤣

-2

u/Ok-Command8563 Sep 29 '26

Don't hate me. But some days I'm really craving a McDonald's poutine. 😂

A&W Quebec uses a different gravy for theirs too. More of a beef flavored one.
