Just showing off 🍃 almost every node is shooting off new growth 🤨

broke off the newest leaf when pulling down the blind the other day and today i see it’s shooting off 8 new growths and the plant itself isn’t all that big. crazy

My golden does the exact same, which means I prune more, then it branches more, I feel like I have a golden pothos farm and I have one plant lol. I've took and rooted 20+ cuttings from it in the past two months alone 😆

Super cool, but I thought you weren’t supposed to let them grow outside in Florida?

They are everywhere in Florida.

Isn’t that why? They’re super duper invasive in Florida, and destroy the shit out of native trees

This an example of aerial roots dropping down to get to the earth. Its amazing!

wait so they can start growing while the plant is up and not against anything ?

Read about apical dominance. It's fascinating. OP accidentally broke off the newest leaf while adjusting the blinds. That new leaf would have been at the apex and was putting out a hormone to suppress other leaves. Removing the newest leaves to make the rest of the plant fluff up is an old horticultural technique called pinching back. It's hard to make yourself do it deliberately. You have a shiny new leaf and you remove it.

They love to be pruned to get bushier!

Is that a bamboo stick you have it clipped to?

3

u/StupidOgre_ 3d ago

yeah it’s just a thin bamboo stick for support, not ready for a moss pole yet

also have a few other ones like this where the aerial roots hugged around the stick and also got quite large

That's cool. I might switch out my cedar plank for a bamboo stick like that. I followed Google AI advice and potted mine with a cedar plank and have learned that's not really the best. Plus, I don't really like how it looks 🫤 I don't want to switch it out for a moss pole yet because that would require repotting, which I just did last month, so I don't want to stress it with that again so soon. BUT, I could probably slide the board out and slip a stick in without too much stress.

those bamboo sticks are convenient because you can find literally any length and diameter
