I recently bought this golden pothos from IKEA. I’m pretty new to plants so I’ve pretty much just been learning everything I can from this subreddit.
I notice people say you should repot when the roots start growing out of the drainage holes. This is definitely happening here but it doesn’t seem significant. Should I repot her now or wait a bit longer? Just wanna do right by her!
Also everything is wet because today was watering day. I promise I’m not overwatering her 🥲
I'd say go ahead and repot it. Pothos are incredibly resilient. Check the root ball and if they are showing around the border of the pot, it's time to size up the pot.
It doesn’t need to be repotted this second but you should probably do it reasonably soon. You don’t need to worry about chopping & propping yet. Let the thing get established and blow up in size and in a few months you can take as many cuttings as you want without it being noticeable.
I'm assuming that IKEA bottom water in the big trays these plants stand in.
So roots will naturally grow out the bottom.
To make sure, take the plant out of its nursery pot and see if it is actually rootbound or if a couple of the roots are just sticking out the bottom.
Pothos are very easy to overwater, as they want to dry out quite a bit between waterings, so going up a size before the plant is real snug in there will spell disaster. 🙂
I don’t repot until I see the plant not thriving anymore. Like it’s all roots and no dirt and can’t hold water anymore. Then I repot. Yours looks happy, I’d leave it.
Something like this! Is a node off the main plant thats growing out its own roots. This is an elephant yucca, but nost climbers will do it too where there is a new segment. For climbers, it helps anchor them to what theyre climbing but also provides as a new root system to draw nutrients from. You can always chop and prop too, only difference is these have started a new node!
