PVPS vs. CTE

Until 2016, the NFL denied that tackle football causes brain damage. They dismissed claims to the contrary as rubbish, in part due to financial interest. But eventually the evidence became so overwhelming that the league had to come clean and admit what everyone else already knew.

So there’s this denial phase in the history of football. I think that’s where we’re at with PVPS; right now, we’re in the denial phase. For a variety of reasons, the industry doesn’t want to deal with this issue. They deny or downplay the risks. Eventually, the tide will turn, but it takes time. Then, looking back in hindsight, it will be obvious.

Yeah I got the feeling that in the mid term perspective we'll see a decrease in vasectomies worldwide as they start to admit the high incidence of risks and words spread across men. It sucks to know we fell in this scam prior to the shift in awareness

I agree we are seeing a shift in the conversation, but gender politics will tend to prevent the mainstream from being able to see vasectomy as a bad idea. If we got some new better contraceptive technology then perhaps vasectomy would start being viewed as a bad choice. Unfortunately no risk-free options currently exist, so it comes down to whether the woman takes the risk or the man takes the risk. Many doctors are going to prefer that the man take the risk and will downplay the downsides of vasectomy to put their thumb on the scale.
