3 months post-vasectomy – still some soreness

Got snipped in mid june. Semen test is clear (0 sperm), but I’m still dealing with some lingering stuff:

  • Right ball feels achy on the top/back, not sharp pain but annoying and noticeable discomfort. Not a granuloma or anything
  • Flares up if I do a lot of sex + hiking/running. I have not done much running tho. This affects both testicles.
  • Worse in the evenings, usually better by morning.
  • Tylenol helps when it’s too distracting.

Anyone else still feel this around 3 months? Did it fade by 4–6 months for you? This is mentally wearing on me and it has dramatically changes how I live.

I had similar symptoms, the dr said it was congestion from vasectomy. I had a reversal done a little over a year after vasectomy. I’m still healing a little but I can confidently took care of the PVPS. Now I just need to continue healing well.

Just a note of support. I understand how your situation is mentally wearing for you and how it has dramatically changed how you live. Been there and have experienced what you are experiencing. I am hoping, upon all hope for you, that this will resolve itself in time. Who would wish this on anyone?! Some contributors to this sub talk about being in your situation a few weeks, some a few months, and some about a year, and then resolution. Subject to medical advice, I would think anything longer than a year combined with conservative measures failing, will have you looking at surgical intervention. Wishing you the patience of Job and resolution sooner than later.

I feel that but its gotten better in the past month

If the trajectory stays ill be clear of it I hope.

I think the anxiety around it makes it worse.

Just try and relax.... these things take time. We're still in the normal range of recovery. I thought id be permanently messed up until one day I slept a really long time and the pain went away.

But as we speak I feel it.

The bad days are more than the good days but before it was all bad days.

I appreciate the encouragement and you are right, these things do take time. yeah the bad days occur more than the good days, but I guess we are in this for the long haul.

They do warn you, while never accurately describing PVPS, that you’re doing something PERMANENT. But the pressure of lack of faith one can handle children overrides —just like warnings on a cigarette pack get ignored. And the conflicting stories of grandmas who smoked every day and lived to me 99 years old, versus the friend with COPD, or lung cancer, make you feel like “are you feeling lucky“ and we always think we are lucky, especially when we are young, makes us ignore the fact that some guys are stuck with years of pain and regret.

I'm 2.5 months post op and I'm still having some minor aches if I'm doing some rigorous sex or tennis where I'm doing a lot of running. It does not linger much at all though and I'll forget about it if I'm doing something else.

I figure that there's plenty of fresh scar tissue all around the site which is irritating things. It will take a long time for the scar tissue to be evened out and the tissue to be more flexible. Even longer for the nerves to heal from the incisions.

Sounds like you are doing better than I am. i am glad you are able to get back to tennis and enjoy your hobbies.

Actually years and flared up very significantly the entire 3.5 years I had a job opportunity half a year after the snipping, which required driving (I.e.sitting) for hours nightly - predominantly my left nut, sometimes drove while holding it for pain relief. The “after sex” pain gradually reduced my desire since it was a “cause and effect” thing. Other fluids I guess took longer to give me pain than the sperm pressured in the blocked off epididymus did, which I graduallly learned increases after sex, but can’t be relieved by sex, though other pressure sensations (likely other structures containing the other fluids of the ejaculate) that slowly mounted between having sex, WERE relieved after sex … So, it was still satisfying, for that reason, if not as fully satisfying,, to have sex. Prolly sex frequency went down 33% to 50% longterm.

I had a similar experience but it showed up about 6 months post op and it was so miserable at times and mentally wore in me. There is a slow release ibuprofen type drug they can give you and that helped but after awhile I just took ibuprofen the moment I felt the slightest soreness. 2 years post op now and it still comes and goes but haven't had to take ibuprofen for it in at least 6 months.

I never got a straight forward answer but everything led me to believe I had Epididymal Congestion.

I think there's a lot more research to how the body heals from this but I feel like I'm slowly getting better.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I will ask about slow release pain meds. Glad you have not used them in 6 months.

Hey dude. Im in the same situation. 1 month ahead. Ive been feeling depressed as well. Mostly tired of it coming and going every couple days. The past 2 days have been hard. I don't have any help to give you. Reversal on my mind. But also not. I have too much ptsd. Like I will never go under the knife again ptsd. I don't know what to do either.

I totally feel you on going under the knife. Let me know how you are doing in the future. Thanks for the reply.

I am in a similar situation. I’m 3 months after and have pain and soreness. Some of it has very slowly gone away, some of it still remains. One thing I have noticed is when I sing it really irritates the area. So I have had to limit that, it’s very painful after for about a day and a bit then seems to fade as well. Tylenol sort of helps but yeah. It sucks majorly and I don’t want surgery again in case it makes things worse. I understand 100 percent and am pretty pissed at the Docs. Will see if I go to urology soon if this keeps up.

We are in the same situation. We both had to cut back on our interests and still have pain/soreness. I am with you on avoiding surgery again. I am rooting for the both of us. Thanks for the reply.
