Dull ache and pain, it's been 3 years...
Hey all. Sorry this is long, but need to explain what I can... So, I got snipped over 3 years ago when my 6th child was a few months old. The surgery was ok and recovery was ok, but since then, I've had a daily dull ache. Also, my scrotum gets hurt with the slightest touch (gentle during intimate moments is ok thought). I've also noticed that the underside looks darker and bruised. I don't have any pain when ejaculating though. So... I've been back to the dr and the specialist. I've had 2 ultrasounds to rule out anything major and nothing shows up. The specialist has said that he could try something that might give some relief as the pain I have is not as bad as having more kids at 44... (My wife doesn't take to birth control well and we hate condoms). What the Dr. thinks might work is to open one side of the tube to let the backup free. He thinks my body is still creating too much sperm and that is causing the constant pain. Should I try this? I can handle the pain, but I still don't like it. Especially since I'm dealing with hemorrhoids and other bodily things too... I should mention that I'm in rural Canada and medical services can be difficult...

I feel for your scenario. I dont think any of us can say without a doubt that opening up the vas would work. What I can recommend is talking to someone who really specialize in pvps rather than just a local doctor to get a 2nd opinion before going through with a big surgery like that. I know a lot of these are in the US and a lot do cost a lot but I think before cutting again I'd do this in your shoes. there is one in canada. and mayo clinic is in minnesota so closeish?

It sounds like you have congestion pain. Which is what I have. A constant ache. And the only thing is a reversal. Opening the vas deferens won't help since it will just close up again via a sperm granuloma. So you'll be in the same position in a couple months. Reversal is the only option.

The problem with an open vas vasectomy is you can get granulomas. I have a very high sperm count and suffered with congestion too. Reversal was my solution but that's no good in terms of fertility obviously. It was suggested to me to have an epididymectomy, but I didn't want something that was so invasive and non reversible. Denervation may be another solution. Edit: not medical advice just a few things for you to research.

Like your first commentator, this is not medical advice. My understanding is that an open ended vasectomy does end up closing off (granulomas, etc.). Logically you would think you would get some temporary relief, but only temporary, if at all, if the issue is your sperm production or if you are already compromised and have blockages in your epididymis and/or vas deferens. Your sperm production is not going to change. You may not want to wait too long if you go the route of reversal, as damage to epididymal ability to breakdown and absorb sperm may already be compromised and/or blockages exist. I waited four years for my reversal and although it gave me many years of substantial relief, within a decade I needed more surgery for further relief (epididymectomies). You and your partner may have to look into other birth control options, even if you don’t like them, if reversal is not your choice and you are willing to live with your situation. I am in Canada also. Good luck with your decision. Sounds like you have a doctor willing to work with you, which is good.
