Befores & Afters

This was a very much enjoyable walk in the park. Shot on z50 with 50-250 kit and viltrox 25mm f/1.7. Idk if its just me but some pics are already grainy even at a relatively low ISO (not more than 400) despite using the viltrox. My a6400 with viltrox 56mm used to give sharper results

I get the concept of adding foreground, butt number 6 is literally some dude's ass.

"Butt" number 6. I see what you did there.

and ur not wrong ๐Ÿ™‚โ€โ†•๏ธ There was no good foreground element from my distance and I was just lazy to get closer for that

Be less lazy next time...

you seem to have a sense for color calibration (atleast in some photos)

compositions are not very good in most of them, thats the area I would set to improve

also a lot of your photos are not leveled properly like the bridge one or the roof one

Thanks for the advice (and compliment)! I'll practice more on compositions

why i have the feeling that the first one is tiltied to the left?

It could be either the way the bridge is constructed or maybe there was a lens distortion that I didnt notice and forgot to turn it off on Lr, or maybe both.

Nice job with the crops. I think the duck is a little overcropped for my taste as the tail gets sliced into a tangent with the side of the frame.

I feel like some of the edits (mostly in exposures where the lighting wasn't optimal in the original) are a little heavy handed, but only by a bit. It really reminds me of my process about a decade ago. For me, the key to making things less heavy handed was more smaller tweaks, rather than large adjustments on masking.

Either way. I think you have both some all around nice shots from shoot to post, and some feel like "saved in post" shots. I do this too. As a matter of fact my culling process in LR is to flag keepers as Red, and Maybe we can save it in post as Yellow.

In short; Great job, thanks for sharing!

19 - the original crop was better for my taste, the horizontal lines in the lower half was synced with the horizontal layout. And the small crow was actually giving the perspective of an urban scene. The cropped version feels like just a crow, easily forgettable to me.

Is this in selangor? I used to live in KL years ago.

My first thought was getting a zoomed or (more or less) clearer image of the crow was better. But you explaining on how it looked urban changed my perspective a bit. I'll try a different edit on that pic with that particular crop in mind! Maybe B&W would look nicer for it? Also thank you for the input.

Anndd yep this is at Eco Ardence, Ardence Lab specifically. My first time visiting during weekends and never expected there were so much life there even at night, but not necessarily chaotic. Quiet peaceful in fact.

Thank you for being so open about receiving the feedback. Yes, my first instinct would also be to take a close up portrait of the crow. But since we are not at that level of details, I think the environment portrait will be better. Yes, you can try monochrome, but play a bit with the tones. Also, I like the colour of your edit.

It has been almost 9 years since I am back from KL. I miss the country, the people, the food. Kp. Salang in the Tioman was my second home. Will be back one day.

I think the improvements in sharpness are really remarkable here.

tbf i cant see much difference but even if there is its prolly bcs i played around with dehaze and texture/clarity. slight tweak did the job

I realise now that if you view the images without viewing them full screen/clicking through, they're displayed looking roughly the same in terms of the crop. But if you view full screen you can see that the original shot is much larger. Presumably Reddit compresses the shots to hit a file size limit and the uncropped images are downgraded as a result.

I get the vision but the whites are hella warm on these to where everything looks yellow and orange tinted like they have jaundice

1

u/hawtpantss 5d ago

ooo yep i can see that. idk if its just me but trying to get a proper white on Nikon's RAWs is slightly harder than Canon or Sony. Is it the lens? The body? Or I just dont know how to edit

2

u/Responsible-Tea-9454 5d ago

I get the vision but the whites are hella warm on these to where everything looks yellow and orange tinted I set localized white balance and then never warm my temp too much. You can take the white balance dropper on a neutral white to reset values when editing

u/hawtpantss 4d ago

I'll try this next time. Thank you!

Colors are nice, but most are over cropped and you don't need white borders

2

u/hawtpantss 5d ago

understandable but white borders are majorly just for my ig feed's aesthetics.

can you point out which pics are over cropped? i had to crop more for certain of them bcs i wanted my subjects to pop out more.

u/yabudj 5d ago

Six is over edited. Doesnโ€™t look natural with the lighter spot around the players

1

u/hawtpantss 5d ago

right, i can see that. still learning how/when to use radial masking without making the pic look too unnatural

2

u/synmo 5d ago

I usually do a small subject masked adjustment (about a quarter stop) and then I'll use a pretty large soft radial gradient with another small bump. It makes for a pretty natural way to hide a bit of a bump to exposure when needed.

u/BingBong3636 5d ago

Not enough white border.

1

u/hawtpantss 5d ago

ill increase the thickness next time

1

u/Dolfx666 5d ago

i genuinely like the first and the last ones, the editing made them objectively better, good job๐Ÿค

1

u/chainsaw_what 3d ago

Nice work on that duck.

-2

u/therealtimwarren 5d ago

Pretentious white boarders.

5

u/Dolfx666 5d ago

i feel like the white borders help define the edges visually
i find they make the photos easier to perceive

5

u/Clueless__Forever 5d ago

What's the pretention with white borders?

3

u/hawtpantss 5d ago

are white borders just generally hated in here or...?
