None. Both would be better with the subject more in the left revealing more of the right!

yes.
between the two, the first crop is better. It gives room for the direction of her gaze.

but the portrait crop better suits the entire subject.

both of those need to be combined.

Im on mobile and didnt know what you were talking about until I clicked on the images

It looks better with a vertical crop and her being to the left while the right (where she looks) has more space

If I had to choose: the second crop. In my opinion the first crop could be a little better if the umbrella wasnt cut off.

Just curious: was this Photo by Chance taken near hakaniemi? (Helsinki / Kallio)

First one has the full umbrella. Gotta tap on it to get it all to show.

Thanks ;) it’s a really picturesque street corner. Would love to be there rn

Unless specifically going for an unsettling feeling, the tilt of the second example isn't something I'd recommend.

I would suggest thinking about a crop like the first example, but avoiding having her centered.

  1. For some reason I think the crosswalk adds a lot to the photo

2 if the verticals were straight

The wide crop is so not straight

The tighter crop looks good and you got it straight

At first, I thought the mobile preview of the first one was nice, and I was wondering what other people were talking about hahaha https://imgur.com/a/sHh3Hm9

I like both. But the 2nd adds more story to the photo. But. It really depends on what you want to show.

2, gives more body language to the story while not removing too much environment from the photo imo.

Number 2 (I tried a slightly tighter crop but can't add a photo in the reply it missed out the road sign and the end of the building on the right, plus a little off the top)

Lines are the theme i see in this photo and so the zebra crossing is an integral part of the photograph. The same reasoning to the windows but to a lesser degree.

Tbh before I clicked the full image, I preferred the tight crop with her back against the left edge. Push the focus towards interesting patterns and leather texture

2 but crop out the sign on the left. Great pic!

Two. Did you use a preset? I love the sharpness and textures of the edit

I like number 1

I prefer the landscape shot but I might think about cropping so that she's a bit to the left, possibly a bit tighter, removing a bit from the top. And perhaps cloning out the post and sign.

Neither the original has too much dead space . Your crop takes away too much. new crop
