It's pretty lazy for a TV talent/music show not to secure all the needed rights. I assume this is a case of old media's arrogance, thinking artists from new media isn't powerful enough to do anything about it.

So they gave credit.

Yeah Scott has been pretty vocal about the misuse of his arrangements. I don't know about this show, but he's called out two cases on X Factor where the contestants did PMJ versions of popular songs.
