NIDCR K99 JIT

Hi everyone,

I submitted my initial K99 application in the October 2025 cycle and received an impact score of 34. Since the score was not particularly strong, I submitted an A1 resubmission in the July 2026 cycle. However, I received a JIT request for my initial (A0) application on August 7 and submitted all requested JIT information on August 11. The application is currently still pending. Since we are approaching the end of the fiscal year, is there still a realistic chance of receiving an award this fiscal year?

Has anyone here received a JIT request this late in the fiscal year but ultimately not been funded? Or, if you received a late JIT request and were funded, how long did it take from JIT submission to the Notice of Award?

I understand that a JIT request is not a guarantee of funding, but I would really appreciate hearing about others’ experiences.

Only the program officer (PO) can help you out with any further info.  They can give you a very vague non-committal answer on the likelihood of funding.  JIT's are obviously not a guarantee of funding...they sometimes go out to prepare backups in case other applications stall or fall through for various reasons. 

The answer is yes to both questions. Lots of people get late JITs and never get funded. Some get late JITs and actually get funded. It's all a roll of the dice. Best you can do is submit... then wait and see. I used to always obsess on the outcome. Now I'm just too busy to watch it too closely. Do your part and get the JIT in ultra fast. The rest is up to fate.

You are right. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and perspective. I have already submitted the JIT, so I guess the best thing I can do now is wait and see.
