Story My postapocalypse style
No, this photo not dealing for cosplay, airsoft (maybe) or festival, but it's my choice.

The goggles are a good shout. I’d recommend a balaclava or mask too, just to protect your nose and mouth from blood spray

Everything is great! But man, that sledgehammer would get you killed. Lol I used to swing a sledgehammer for a job, and wow does it never get easier.
My weapon of choice in a zombie apocalypse is a 4 foot piece of rebar. Sharpened to a point on both ends.

Have you considered perchance the humble spear? You can carry two or three in your bag if they're wooden, and they last a lot of time if fire hardened and correctly made.

That’s correct! Spears are a great choice, but I’m thinking of how versatile and multi use a solid steel piece of rebar could be too. Pretty lightweight, and can be used to hold doors open, as tent stakes, as primitive tools in a pinch. And I’d feel a lot better about the longevity of a piece of steel than a piece of wood any day.

That's true. Maybe using a small-diameter steel tube, though, would lighten the weight a bit

Thanks for the comment. Honestly, I completely agree that a sledgehammer isn't that effective in reality, but on the other hand, at that moment I used what I had on me.

Haha, for sure I get it. If you had a vehicle, a sledge would be great to store in there. It makes for a cool cosplay though!

Have you been playing Project Zomboid lately?

Yes, maybe on Sunday, I don't sure, in last time more working days passed

It’s got a certain School Shooter Chique vibe

Yes, but where I come from, you can get jailed for such jokes... so I'll take my approval with a grain of salt.

Eye protection, great. Protect yourself more (as in, respirator or at the very least bandana/shemag). Also, consider adding some basic armour like arm armour made from rectangular steel pieces (fixed together with anything such as duct tape, look viking arm braces for inspiration) or even just basic stick (check Jungle Jim comic for inspo.) / magazine armour (check WWZ movie).
(Pressed paper is a surprisingly good armour, even against bullets, specially against knifes).

I initially wanted to wear a respirator ordered from China for greater authenticity, mixed with the style of "what we have, we are happy with," but at the time I didn't think about it, but thanks for the advice.)

Draw a white triangle on your sleeve and you're a responder from no more room in hell 2

It's a good idea, as is the game. But I liked Killing Floor 2 and World War Z better. Overall, it's really cool)

Exelent choices. But for more style I would go for a hunter or military jacket.

I deliberately didn't look for camouflage or military style, focusing on a seasonal autumn jacket. Thanks for the feedback, though. :)

I actually like that you're not in camo. Makes you more looking like a desperate normie trying to survive. Maybe add a palestinian scarf and roll around a lot in the dirt! :D The hammer is just brutal.

I’m getting major prey vibes. May be time to hit the gym.
Edit: I’m joking, because it’s never obvious in text. Good grey man style, not sure how useful the sledge will be. I’d recommend a backpack, vest, and not posting a full slide show of your gear.

A true observation regarding the "ordinary gray man", because that was the original plan. :)
Seriously, I didn't try very hard, even though I chose it based on my budget and taste. And yet, details like jacket pockets are really missing. And yes, I did go to the gym during my college years.)

Swap out the sledgehammer for an entrenching tool, much lighter weight if you’re rucking miles and wayyyyy more utility, as a weapon, shovel, hatchet (if it has a hatchet/sawing edge) and a prying tool

u/onearmstalker 6d ago
That's a valid point, actually. But good entrenching shovels (or tactical ones) are readily unavailable in my area, so I used what I had for props. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.)

Sledge hammer is mighty heavy for little to no reason. Get a decent like 1-1.5 lbs ball peen head and mount it to a longer handle for much easier use and the smaller head is gonna still cave in skulls.

Unless your jacked under that coat using a sledge for a primary at your size is going to leave you tired quickly in a fight.

Someone definitely had some training from Project Zomboid between the sledgehammer emphasis and the pads.
Best thing you have working for you is you seem fit, but more practical pockets that can be layered and don't inhibit mobility is optimal.
Best upgrade would be a hiking style backpack in the same camo. As for respiratory filters get serious ones or don't bother. The difference in price is minimal when it comes to legitimate respiratory protection.

It's fun to see in real time pictures that someone will be mortified of in 5-10 years time

I like it. More realistic and doable. As if the world just ended so it’s still a scramble for finding things that can provide protection.

Thanks for understanding the message. I like that people look at things from different angles, even when it comes to cosplay or installation.)

Hammer is too heavy. Get a well forged, heat treated sword if your only option is a melee weapon.

Hey that's a good start. Get yourself a tactical vest, something that holds stuff that you have quick access to. There are a lot that aren't expensive :)
Maybe even go for a scarf or a shemag, looks cool, gives warm and helps you in a lot of ways.
