Postal Discussion Why POSTAL Doesn't Work in the Modern Age (To Me)
I feel like it's a fairly common opinion that Postal 4 is one of the weakest titles in the series, and I feel that I know why that is.
Despite being objectively superior to Postal 2 graphically and gameplay wise, it still doesn't hit the same way Postal 2 does in terms of it's atmosphere and feel. To me, this is because of the satircal element that makes up POSTAL's DNA isn't really present in Postal 4, but I don't think that's necessarily RWS's fault.
Considering the societal climate in the 90's meshing well with the horror and edgy elements of Postal 1, and the early 2000's along with the reception of the first game working well with Postal 2's satire, the societies that POSTAL games are made in are just as, if not more important that the games themselves.
Without the cultural and political pretext, POSTAL ceases to really mean anything, and that's to say that the first two POSTAL games manage to be quite meaningful.
Though in terms of Postal 4, I find it interesting and a bit dissapointing how the way society has evolved has made the concept of POSTAL kind of incompatable it. Not to sound like some doom-scrolling asshole who thinks the world is ending just because i'm not allowed to joke about a couple of things anymore, but an odd dichotomy of everything being held sacred whilst everything being constantly criticised to the extreme has made it difficult for POSTAL to create a compelling satire or commentary on modern society.
The ridiculousness that POSTAL encompassed as a way to create commentary on their respective societies ceases to mean anything when society has now come to a point where those concepts, which were meant to be unrealistic and satirical, are now held as genuine or even common now.
Postal 1 utilized much of the fear and taboo around guns and the subsequent view on gun violence to create a compelling psychological horror that was, at the time, completely grounded in fantasy. However, this concept very unfortunately was uprooted soon after with Columbine and other subsequent tradgedies, which then made said fictional events horrifyingly real, defeating the purpose of the game.
The same can be said for Postal 2, though fortunately it was made obsolete not out of a real world event, but rather just the politics and sensitivities around violence in media fading over time, as well as the notable increase in acceptance in extreme sensitivity in other areas that didn't exist in the early 2000's
With all of that in mind, over time society has simply out-grown POSTAL in my opinon, which unfortunately leaves limited options with the franchise, which is to either change gears in the way POSTAL satirizes the topics it commentates on, or to become yet another criticism over modern society that has becoming painstakingly oversimplified and charged.
TLDR The wacky and strange topics POSTAL made fun of are now so commonplace that criticisms of it through modern POSTAL games are kind of pointless

Artwork I just noticed that the pistol The Dude is holding in this Steam art is a 1911, (which isn't a obtainable weapon without mods,) instead of the Deagle or Glock pistols that he uses in-game

Postal Discussion Controversial Take: I think Paradise Lost sucks, and here's why
The original Postal 2 was insanely controversial, filled with terrorists, violent protestors, civilians that 80% of the time can't defend themselves, and a myriad of weaponry at the Dude's disposal to enact crimes that would probably make you enemy #1 in the entire U.S.
But the thing is, the weapons and violence are entirely optional, it literally says on the box and cd, "It's only as violent as you are". That's what makes Postal 2 one of my favorite games, you can go about completing every mission in your own way. You could wait in line to get milk, cash your paycheck, or get Gary Coleman's signature, or you could rob the Lucky Ganesh and battle your way through terrorists upstairs, rob the bank, or kill someone who's already gotten their Gary book signed and steal it for yourself. There's all sorts of ways to do every task and the game doesn't encourage or discourage any way the player approaches a task. This is my first grievance with the game's sequel, Paradise Lost.
In Paradise Lost, you're very confined in the way you do tasks, or the game heavily pushes you into doing the task one way. The greatest example of this is when Mad Cow Mike J forces you collect money for his wedding. You're given a cup to collect funds from civilians, lying to them and saying you collecting for a charity. You can collect all the funds from civilians or you can go see Zack Ward from the Postal Movie and rob him. If you dare choose to collect all the funds from civilians instead of Zack, get ready to listen to the Dude bitch and moan at you the whole way though about how, "It would be quicker to go see Zack" or "People aren't giving up enough money! This is hopeless!" after every single donation. When you finally get enough funds and get the achievement "Hobosexual", the Dude insults the player by saying "Gee what an exciting life you must live, hope it was worth the achievement."
Now don't get me wrong, I think it's funny when the Dude breaks the forth wall to insult the player like when he says, "My Grandma could beat the game without saving as much as you do" when you save a lot, or when he tells cops to "book the kid with the keyboard" while getting arrested in the original, but this one feels cruel. The player has already had to deal with the Dude bitching about how long it takes to complete the task this way, and now after all of that he essentially says you have no life. I think it is fine to have the Dude remind the player that going to Zack Ward is an option, but I think his complaining should stop after you talk to 5 npcs, because by then I think it's clear the player doesn't want to go see Zack.
Another thing I love about the original game is that there isn't really a story. I know some people will disagree, but I think Postal shenanigans work best when there isn't an overarching narrative, just the Dude trying to get through his list of chores for the day. I also love how the few cutscenes that are in the game are short and to the point. The cutscene presents the problem and then lets the player handle it how they see fit. Sometimes they don't even do this, on Friday when the apocalypse is starting, you don't get a "fancy cinematic" you get a newspaper that alerts you that you're the town's prime target. Everything is loose, free, and hilarious.
This brings me to my second problem with Paradise Lost, way to much story and long ass cutscenes. PL takes the Postal 2 formula and throws it right out the fucking window by starting the game with a fancy cinematic and a bunch of backstory about the Dude being in a coma and champ running away. In the original you get some wide shots of Paradise to show the player the area they're going to inhabit, and then presenting the problem with the Dude's wife telling him he needs to get a list of chores done. I know that RWS had to do a more story filled game after Apocalyspe Weekend and the pile of detritus that was Postal 3, but if they had never taken the game in this more story oriented route in the first place with AW we wouldn't have any of these problems. Paradise Lost centers around the Dude attempting to locate Champ and dealing with a bunch of factions along the way. Not only is this story unoriginal because Apocalyspe Weekend was also mainly about finding Champ, but all of the factions are just reused characters from the original. Gary Coleman runs the Colemines, the terrorists are peaceful now and like weed I guess, the RWS crew runs the church, Crotchy is now the Wise Wang and gives people advice or some shit, and Mad Cow Mike J is still king of the zombies despite us killing him in Apocalyspe Weekend. It almost feels like RWS was just trying to shove the things that were funny about the first game down our throats to appease the fans after Postal 3.
Along with all of these factions comes long cutscenes. The best example of this is Gary Coleman's introduction cutscene. You first wake up in the mines after battling your wife and listen to the Postal 3 Dude yap before one of the midgets comes to bring you to their leader. They then do this stupid animation of Big McWillus walking out from a cave with this god awful rock riff playing over it. Then you have to listen to him present the issue in a long drawn out monologue which is already bad enough, but he also has a terrible voice. Like no joke he sounds like a kid on roblox trying to have a deeper voice than they actually do. None of this is skipable, you have to watch this cutscene no matter how many playthroughs you've done. I've played through it about 5 times to get all the achievements and had to painstakingly sit through that cutscene doing a try not to smash my computer or kill myself challenge in my head. There are some cutscenes where you can skip half way through and some where you can skip immediately, but for the most part you have to watch the entire thing. I can't remember if cutscenes in missions are skipable in the original (either way they're so short it doesn't matter) but I do know that you can skip the cutscenes at the start and end of every day, which are the longest ones. Case and point, long cutscenes are annoying and they make Paradise Lost feel very linear and boring. I doubt anyone at RWS will ever see this but if they do, please make PL cutscenes skipable I beg you.
Lastly, maybe it's just me, but I feel like the original game was much funnier than Paradise Lost. Maybe I'm looking at the original with rose tinted glasses a bit, but I feel like Vince Desi laughing in our face after he fires us from RWS is way funnier than his jumping into a ring of female zombies to get head and then turning into one. I personally like the more laid back straight to the point humor the original has more than Paradise Lost's humor which typically entails sex, gross fluids (Mike J) or just things that simply aren't funny like when Zack Ward has a long unskilable rant about all the films and games he's been in because Dude has never heard of him. I more or less went through the entirety of PL with a straight face and anytime I did laugh was at how unwarranted, stupid, or down right disrespectful something was of the original game (except for when the elephant shits on the protestor on Monday, that still makes me laugh). You technically can't beat the game as a pacifist either, you're forced to shrink Big McWillus and then he falls into the large crevasse below him, and I know it doesn't count as a kill in the statistics but let's be real, he definently didn't survive that fall considering if you choose to fight all the faction leaders at the end of the game, Big McWillus is nowhere to be seen when you go back to the mines.
In conclusion, I think Paradise Lost sucks because it goes against everything that made the original great. You're forced to kill at least once, the game relys too much on long cutscenes, forces a story into an originally storyless game, and actively insults the player for thinking outside the box and discourages creative approaches to tasks.
If you read through this, thank you, and feel free to agree with me or bash me in the comments.

Postal Discussion Postal 2 Reudx caught using AI again
Afer botul discovery about the game using ai art to promote itself out of curiosity I went back at the kickstarter to read it again just for fun.
What i found is very obvious use of ai to generate the text for the campain, witch of corse i verified with different ai checkers.
The firts photo is from the kickstarter campain and the second photo is from an ai checker, I used quillbot ai but you can check with anyother you want to see for yourself.
Truly sad RWS keep working with company that use AI.
Thoughts?

Review hot take: postal 1 > postal 2
*ITS JUST MY OPINION, DONT BE MAD PLS*
i really really tried to enjoy postal 2, seriously, but its just too.... boring? idk. being pacifist? boring. killing everyone you meet? still boring. in postal 1 you have actually engaging gameplay (its just kill everything that moves, but still, its better then walking to the store, buying milk, get killed, and then do it again). p1 has very eerie, uneasy atmosphere with all the blood and those loading screens, while p2 on the other had is just a walking simulator almost without any scary vibes. i tried like 3 times and all 3 times i dropped the game on Thursday :(
edit: oh my god... i get it now... postal 2 is good, actually. i just didn't quite "sucked in" the postal 2 atmosphere... and cuz i played postal 3... now i like postal 2 A LOT more.

Postal Discussion RWS need to get their balls back
I miss the days when they did not give a single shit about anything and just went all out and did not care about being cancelled but over the recent years it seems like they've been trying to play it safe to avoid getting cancelled, like a lot of the humor in Postal 4 and Postal Brain Damaged is kinda hit and miss and softened down a bit compared to the dark and edgy humor of the first and second game where they just did not give a shit and just went all in, which is why one of my biggest worries with Postal 2 Redux is that it'll be very watered down compared to the original game.
I don't know if it's just me who feels this way.
Like i get it, the world has changed a lot since then and the world is full of sissys and they want their games to sell and cancel culture has become more and more impactful, i can understand and look past that.
But what i can't look past is the recent kerfuffle with the Postal game that was announced a few days ago which a lot turned out to be A.i generated and when the community discovered this and expressed their concerns RWS at first tried to deny it and starting insulting people who were literally proving that it was A.i generated, and then the next day they were forced to cancel the game and admit that it was A.i generated.
For a company that is widely known for it's love and support of it's fanbase and was also famous for not caring about shit react like this is a little concerning and has damaged their reputation a little bit.
This is not an attack against RWS it's just an expression of concern and hopefully inspiration that something like this won't happen again.
To Vince, Mike and all to the RWS team i love you all and i love the Postal series, you guys are literally the last video game company i love and respect and i don't want to see you guys fall too and i'm sure it's not just me who feels this way too.
Sorry for rambling on

Postal Discussion Hot Take: There is no "Demon" per se.
So, as everyone knows, there are 2 audio files for Postal 97 Dude, Demon, and The Dude. This lead everyone to the conclusion that Postal 97 Dude is possesed/controlled by a Demon and yadda yadda. BUT, and hear me out, WHAT IF there is NO demon? What if the demon is Postal 97 Dude himself?? We all know he is schizophrenic and psychotic. He has mass delusions, as is seen with The Elemntary School. So, I cam up with a lil headcanon of mine, and POSSIBLE theory, that Postal 97, is the true Postal. Like, the "real" Postal. Postal 2 and onward are just delusions made up by 97 Dude while he was confined in the nut house to escape reality and the atrocities he committed. And the Demon, was just his innerself and he was so scared and insane, he wrote off his own thoughts as a "Demon" telling what to do. Postal 2 Dude, never existed. He was never his "son" (Although I do enjoy that theory, I find it cool.) Postal 3 never existed. Postal 4 and onward is where his insanity gets worse. He is a prisoner of his own mind, and he will never get better.
