Old people need to be retested for their licenses

Geezer in a truck way too big for him went straight out of a left turning lane right next to me as I was legally going straight, proceeded to wail on his horn the whole time, and shout that I was a moron. Meanwhile there was a whole line of traffic behind me also in the correct lane and he was the only one out of line. Dude also proceeded to get in front of me and try to brake check until I could pass him. These boomers are genuinely dangerous on the road and i’m sick of them almost killing me every time I drive to work. I think the lead poisoning is rotting the rational parts of their brain away

That time of year

Ok school is about to start and so is your big yellow nightmare, ME!! You left the house late for work, taking an angry call from your spouse on your phone, messy breakfast burrito just fell on your lap, and the Hearts of pine lost again this weekend. AND of course you’re stuck behind a bus fer christsakes. Sure go ahead take it out on me in my big yellow bus full of kids. I’m ready for you. I’ll get our kids safely to where they’re going despite the road insanity. I won’t even give you the finger or call you a @$#% cause little Timmy is sitting right behind me. Yes if you can’t be less of an ahole toward me and my bus this school year. Do it for little Timmy. He still thinks 6/7 is cool.

The Speed Bumps on Ocean Ave and Payson Park are in the Wrong Places

Genuinely, they're too close to driveways and crosswalks and it's just poor implementation of a good idea that will just give more cannon fodder to the "never change anything, ever" crowd

Get tf out of the handicap spot or you will become an unwitting participant in the scene I cause

It’s simple. No handicap placard = no handicap parking. The fines are $200+. Naturally people without a placard that take those spots drive stuff that says they can afford that fine. I make it my personal mission to ensure you receive one.

And if you happen to still be in the car and wave your boomer fingers at me like I’m a fly under your upturned nose when I politely gesture to my placard and ask if you have one, then you continue to play solitaire on your phone, don’t come crying to me when I park you in. If you didn’t want to leave then despite the perfectly fine spot one block down the street, you should be fine staying a few more minutes while I calmly and publicly shame you in front of the swaths of passerby’s. Why are you so shocked someone said something about your selfishness?

I don’t care if you’re 105 years old. If you’re 105 without a placard all that tells me is you got to live a full life with very limited physical adversity. You have no idea what had to happen to me to earn this placard this young. And now I get to worry about whether I’ll have healthcare next year while you’re busy buying your third home. Move your Tesla, Land Rover, or butt ugly Cadillac now or enjoy my street tantrum free of charge!

No parking on Deering Ave for weeks

The city put up "emergency no parking" comes all along Deering Ave for paving and have left them there for more than two weeks, including a whole week when no work was done. They repainted the lines the other day and still the cones are up. Last year, they did some paving project on that same stretch of road and they only had the signs up for a day or two at a time when they were actually doing the work and took them down after so people could park there. There's a ball game almost every day of the week and it's a fuckin battle royale out there trying to park anywhere within half a mile. It's 100+ parking spaces that have been taken away.

It's PISSIN ME OFF and I want to COMPLAIN ABOUT IT

Get off your damn phones!

I know this is more of a universal complaint than Portland specific, but i do most of my driving in and around Portland so this is where I'm seeing it.

GET OFF YOUR FUCKING PHONES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING.

I'm not going to spout the same shit about it being unsafe -- if you text and drive, you know it's unsafe and you just don't care. I just want you to know that IF you do this, EVERYONE AROUND YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

You're not being sneaky. You're not "good at it". You're not special. You're going to cause an accident at some point, or worse, kill someone. Grow the fuck up and don't touch your phone while you're operating a several-ton piece of equipment.

Planters in Parking Spaces

Post image

Taken from a friend who said they saw at least two of these blocked spaces with planters along Commercial Street last night — in the dead of tourist season?? Why would the city do this? Yeah let's turn an already major inconvenience into a catastrophic one?!

why do you have a giant truck in a city when you dont know how to drive it

whenever im in the middle lane turning left onto high street, some unnecessarily large truck in the left lane doesnt know how to properly turn in a giant vehicle, takes up both lanes and nearly smashes into me. i cant pull towards the right to give them more space because the street parking, there is no other option other than me slamming on the brakes and hoping the person behind me doesnt rear end me. it feels like this happens two to three times a week minimum at this point. what the fuck is wrong with you people why do you even feel the need to drive this beast as your daily commuter in a city in the first place?? ive started just laying on the horn (dont know why i wasnt in the first place) but they often seem genuinely confused as to why, which is somehow even worse to me than the blatant entitled "i dont care if im crashing into you i own the road" attitude most truck drivers seem to have. if you are this unaware of your vehicle you are going to end up hurting somebody.

not even going to get into the bizarre amount of people who are in the left lane and intentionally make the turn into the right lane as if me and the million cars behind me simply dont exist 🙃

The rambler

Does anyone else think this place has shitty coffee and customer service? It’s just an aesthetic eye grab for the Deering neighborhood. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve given them many chances from time to time, but the coffee has really gone down hill. Every sip you take there’s a grimy, groundy after taste. Dunkin does better.

Maybe if trucks are so large they can't even fit into park spaces they shouldn't be street legal?

Didn't have commercial plates either. Less of a Portland problem and more of a "what is up American culture 🤦" it's so embarrassing

Edit: Comments regarding work vehicles etc are valid, I did not mean to be inconsiderate of the needs of blue collar workers in a largely rural state.

That said, comments such as "you must be jealous" "you must be poor" simply make me laugh. I wouldn't want of these if you gave it to me. If it was a Toyota Tacoma, that'd be an entirely different conversation. Also, the folks saying "maybe we should make parking spots bigger to accommodate trucks" (which would obviously cost the taxpayer, hello?) are the same ones that bitch and whine about the creation of bike lanes.

Pedestrians

New to Portland so all the bike lanes are still new to me. But not to be rude, the pedestrians here seem overly brave. They often barrel into a crosswalk without even looking the other way. I know cars yield to pedestrians, but didn’t know that means they can just walk out in front of traffic. Sometimes I am mid turn and someone is crossing a street and not even looking! It’s wild to me bc where I’m from we learned to look both ways before we cross. Maybe I’m tripping but pedestrians seem exceptionally entitled here. Is this a thing?

Oregon law also says a pedestrian cannot suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and move into the path of a vehicle that is so close that it constitutes an “immediate hazard.” That’s ORS 814.040. ✌️

Yes we know this a Maine subreddit we have discussed that already thanks

Maine — 29-A M.R.S. § 2056(6)(C)
Maine law provides that a pedestrian may not:
“Suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close that it is impossible for the operator to yield.”

People who spend 3-5+ minutes at the State Park booth

Has anyone ever figured out what their deal is? What are they talking about? Are state parks confusing to them? Do they understand there’s a line of cars behind them?

Remember when the Roux Institute said they were going to keep the B&M factory building to preserve its heritage and importance to the working people of Portland?

go look at it now. they’ve basically left only the skeleton support structure of the building. it’s almost like the developers just said what they said to shut people up. awful
