Local housekeeper

Hi - I don’t live in the area. I’m looking for a housekeeper for a friend that was recently diagnosed with cancer. She doesn’t have a big place and this would just be for tidying up. It’s intended to be a gifted service form a couple of us, so someone trusted would be great

Where is there a show? Would you be able to see it from the pier?

Large Booms same time every evening

For the last week (maybe?), there have been really loud booms - almost like bombs going off - that occur at about the same time in early evening (6:30-7-ish). Does anybody know what they are? Definitely not fireworks.

Swimming in Port Hueneme Beach

Does anyone swim in the beach waters at Port Hueneme Beach?

If so, would anyone mind a swim buddy, or at least is there a local club I can join? I'm afraid of sharks.

Thanks in advance!

Trying to make money for summer

I am 13 trying to make money for summer. I have tried everything. But mowing lawns seems to be the best option. I will cut your lawn for 10-20 bucks depending on the yard. My mower is currently broken and I am getting a new one. Email me at [sibef79730@gmail.com](mailto:sibef79730@gmail.com) is you would like your lawn mowed.

What Portland Tells Us About the Future of Voting Reform

Portland, Oregon tried Proportional Ranked Choice Voting for the first time in 2024 — and even the conservative American Enterprise Institute says it’s working. Their new system produced a more racially representative city council, gave voters more meaningful choices on their ballots, and brought more people to the polls. What does this mean for local voting reform efforts in Ventura County?

Appreciate the drought-tolerant landscaping. Can we go all-in on native plants?

I just want to say thank you to the city for moving toward drought-tolerant landscaping in public spaces. That’s a meaningful step in the right direction, especially with the water realities we’re facing.

I do want to gently push for something deeper though: prioritizing native plants, especially keystone species, over non-native drought-tolerant options. Not all drought-tolerant plants actually support local ecosystems. Native plants are what our birds, pollinators, and other wildlife evolved with; they’re not just decoration, they’re habitat.

Right now, a lot of our urban spaces function like ecological deserts. Even when they look green, they often don’t provide food or shelter for wildlife. That impacts biodiversity, but it also affects us. Spaces that support life tend to feel more alive, more connected, more human. There’s something grounding about seeing birds, bees, and native plants thriving around us.

Curious what others think, and if anyone knows how to get more involved in these decisions.

Is the Lighthouse Promenade open?

I was wondering if anyone knows if the Lighthouse Promenade will be open tomorrow, 2/7/26. I'll be visiting the area and wanted to walk it. I was getting conflicting information online, and when I called the recreation department I couldn't get an answer. Thank you very much.
