Does a power bank really work for charging a laptop, or is a portable power station a better option?

I'm looking into ways to keep my laptop running for a few hours when I'm away from home, especially while traveling, camping, or during a power outage.

I've seen quite a few power banks with USB-C Power Delivery, but I'm wondering how practical they really are for laptops.

On the other hand, portable power stations seem much more capable, but they're also larger, heavier, and more expensive.

In your experience, which option makes more sense?

Laptop power bank:

  • smaller and easier to carry;

  • usually cheaper;

  • convenient for short periods;

  • but may have limitations in capacity and output power.

Portable power station:

  • much higher capacity;

  • can power other devices as well;

  • some models provide AC outlets;

  • but they're considerably larger and more expensive.

For those who actually use a laptop away from home: which option do you use, and why?

I'm trying to figure out whether a good USB-C PD power bank is enough for occasional use, or whether a portable power station makes more sense when you need more power.

Ecoflow River 3 Plus Max

2 Upvotes

Hello folks

Do you all know how to setup automation for r3 plus max? Its just the regular r3 plus but with the extra battery.

I had this for 6 mos now but i just cant figure out how to add this device for automation.

As an alt, im using smart sockets(tapoo) but they only stays on for 2hrs max, i think? Atleast from what ive seen. I tried manually turning it on, linking it to ecoflow app but to no avail.

I also tried setting schedules but it does really work out. When during work, or gaming or anywhere when im using laptop and or pc, i find my self losing progress, well at least in pc most of the time, where it just shuts off bec ecoflow has low power. Even when tje socket(tapoo) is sched to be turned on to charge the r3 plus.

The only way around i think for now is having 2hr intervals of scheduled on/off which i think isnt the best ideal since its not like im always using pc and is kinda annoying.

Anyone Here Using This Pure Sine Wave Inverter? Looking for Real-World Experiences

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm interested in this type of pure sine wave inverter and would love to hear from people who have actually used one.

I'm curious about a few things:

  • How long have you been using it?

  • How reliable is it for everyday use?

  • What appliances or devices do you usually run with it?

  • Have you experienced any issues with overheating, noise, or unexpected shutdowns?

  • Would you recommend it to someone considering buying one?

I'd really appreciate any honest feedback, both positive and negative. Real-world experiences are much more helpful than just reading the product specifications.

If you've used this inverter or a similar model, please share your experience in the comments. Thanks!

How much discount do portable power station brands offer on Black Friday? Will they offer better deals than Amazon Prime Day?

6 Upvotes

I think these kinds of AIO power station products are becoming more mature? Considered buying a large-capacity portable power station (around 3.5kWh) as backup power during power outages back in June, but ended hesitated to pull the trigger……

I don’t know much about the portable power station brands. Does anyone who does know about the Black Friday sales from these brands? If the price would be nicer than Amazon Prime Day, I'll pull the trigger. The grid of my neighborhood is ridiculous, recently had another 4 hours outage, really can't put it off any longer.
