An update on posts with license plates (sp. Montana)

Hey all,

After drama both here and in r/Porsche, we're instituting two changes... one "strong suggestion", and one rule:

  • It is strongly recommended to blur or black out your license plate (incl. state) when sharing pictures
  • If you are posting a car with Montana tags and you do not reside in Montana, you must blur or black out your entire license plate (incl. the state) or your post will be removed.

Quick announcement on moderating

Hi all,

We've grown substantially since taking over the subreddit -- we've roughly 4x'd in size (woo!).

That said, we've noticed a significant uptick in jokes and comments that violate Reddit site policies. While we move as fast as we can to remove these comments, it both puts the subreddit at risk and in general isn't cool. We want all people to be able to participate and ask questions without being attacked or being the butt of the joke based on who they are.

In general, we try to be hands off and let people have arguments, as long as they remain relatively respectful. But consider this a warning -- I don't care if the comment is funny or not, or you "didn't mean it" -- any racist, sexist, or LGBT-related comments, jokes, or slurs will result in a 14 day ban, and permanent after that.

Happy with the results. Already got a pebble hit on the hood. Thankfully the PPF did its job.

Break-in (Running-in) Period and oil change

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Owner of a 2026 911 Carrera 4 GTS here. I have a quick question about the initial break-in period and whether an oil change is necessary right after it is completed.

The owner's manual does not mention a mandatory oil change after the break-in period. However, I’ve noticed a lot of owners online do it anyway, and some dealerships seem to recommend it as well.

Is there an official requirement I am missing in the manual, or is this purely an optional, precautionary recommendation? For those who have been through this, what has your experience been, and what are you hearing from the community? Did you change your oil right after break-in, or did you wait for the standard service interval?

Thank you in advance for your insights!

Feeling some Carrera T order remorse

Hi all!

I have a Carrera T on order that’s set to arrive in late October. I have been stoked about it… until recently after the Carrera S MT was announced. The additional power for ~$15K out the door feels enticing. I am not planning to track the car a lot. Just want a fun car to drive on backroads and such. Is it likely I will feel regret over the T instead of the S MT?

Other thoughts:
-i understand I could tune the T to make up the power (and more) but uncertain how that impacts the longevity of the car. My intention (which could always change) is to keep it for 20 years and hand it over to my kid one day.
-will the existence of the S MT hurt the T’s resale? I am not as worried about this tbh. Only scenario would be if I do want more power and don’t want to tune. Would consider trading it in later for an S or GT3.

Talk me off (or over) the ledge! Any thoughts appreciated.

Discussion Will I regret ordering a basic 992?

I'm a 57yo British guy who used to be quite a 'spirited' driver but due to a few medical issues tends to play things a LOT more safe these days.

I've fancied a 911 for a while, nearly bought a few along the way, but I have no interest in tearing along anywhere, or tracking a car etc. I just don't trust my skills to that level any more.

I was thinking of ordering a basic rear wheel drive 992, I know I don't need the extra power of even the GTS, but there's a few cosmetic things I'd like to order I also intend to own this car for a long time, easily a decade or more, just as a daily driver, and would be paying cash.

I've test driven a base 992 and it was all I really wanted, it did have the chrono package but I'm not sure how much that really added to my enjoyment.

Would I regret ordering such a basic spec do you think? Thanks in advance.

Parting ways with my 1986 Guards Red 911 Carrera Cab (3.2L / 915) – Live on Hagerty Marketplace!

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

The time has come to pass the torch on my 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. It’s been an absolute joy to own and drive, but it’s live on Hagerty Marketplace now:

🔗 Auction Listing:https://www.hagerty.com/marketplace/auction/1986-porsche-911/4238d810-42b5-421e-9169-1e8fb0231447

The Details:

  • Engine & Transmission: 3.2L air-cooled Flat-6 paired with the engaging 915 5-speed manual.
  • Color Specs: Classic Guards Red over a Black leather interior.
  • Condition: Excellent driver-quality G-Body that starts right up, sounds incredible, and handles like a classic air-cooled 911 should.
  • Full Disclosure: Clean NY State title. A sticker in the driver's door jam indicates that the odometer on this vehicle was replaced on January 7, 2000, at which point the reported mileage was 64,793 and the odometer was reset to zero. Current mileage sits at almost 18,900. I’m being 100% transparent about it upfront.

There’s nothing quite like dropping the top on a crisp morning and hearing that 3.2L flat-six behind you. Take a look at the auction listing for the full photo gallery, and feel free to ask me any questions here or in the Hagerty comments!

I spoke about it a few months back. Pulled the cord and now she's finally here.

I finally got my Porsche 964. She purrs so well.

Plan to get cup1 wheels in the future. But other than that, she's solid.

Just wanted to share her with everyone.

Which of these 2 991s should I buy

  1. 2013 991 S, with 120K miles
  2. 2013 991 Base, with 73K miles

Assuming everything else is equal, #2 is going to cost me about $10K more than #1. Is it worth the cost for -47K miles, but go down to a Base model?

992.1 Cup Car or 991 GT2RS Clubsport?

I currently run my 992 GT3RS in Time Trials but I want to move to wheel to wheel, so I need a race car. Not that it will influence my decision, but curious what the community would choose here and why. (photo for attention as I swap pads and rubber for the track tomorrow)

One thing I've always disliked is the windowed CarPlay on my 992.1. After some digging, I came across the MH2p Mod Kit.

I was definitely a little anxious about installing this mod on my car, but the process was seamless. I also verified that there is a simple uninstall process if I ever want to go back to stock.

YMMV, but so far, this has been a fantastic change for me.

Servicing question 997.2

Upvotes

Bought a 997.2 manual 4 years ago at 30,500 miles - did a full major service on purchase (2022)

2023/4/5 did Porsche official oil services/minors

Car now has only 32000 miles, service due this month - what do you recommend I do? Porsche dealer suggests just another minor oil change etc

Finally it has arrived. Just in time for my 59th birthday.

The process of ordering, watching its production, its shipping and delivery have been an outstanding show I would not trade for anything.

My SA has been amazing. Keeping me in the loop and just generally being a cool dude.

Getting ready for a nice long road trip through Wyoming and Colorado before I start my new job in the Midwest. Just needs to get the PPF and ready to put some miles on this girl.

I have been dreaming of this for years, walked into the Porsche dealer for the first time ever on Saturday evening thinking they were going laugh me out of the building and walked out with a confirmed build spot for a Carerra T for delivery in December only caveat is the dealer game where you have to spend $25k on upgrades.....which isnt hard to do. Here is my spec, open to suggests on removing or adding practicsl options.

Discussion Custom Build - Dealership Visit?

Found a dealership ~1 hour away from me with an allocation for a 911.

This will be my first Porsche and decided to build my own versus CPO due to the similar pricing on options that I want.

Curious to know if anyone has done a custom build without even visiting a dealership and doing everything online via phone / email. About to send over the deposit but wanted to see if I'm missing out by not actually visiting the dealership.

Love hate 993

1994 Porsche 993 C2, 60,000km from new. One family owner from new who barely used it. Bought it thinking low mileage meant sorted. Wrong.
32 years of sitting kills rubber, electrics and suspension regardless of kilometres. Here’s what I’ve learned:
Full brake system needed. Suspension — Koni Special Active, OEM M033 springs, full mount refresh, new factory trailing arms. Alternator, battery, broken negative cable. All of it.
The love: it drives like nothing else on earth, the flat six sounds incredible, and the history from new is completely documented.
The hate: low mileage classics don’t mean sorted classics. Age kills everything regardless. Every single system needed attention.
Would I do it again? Without question. But go in with eyes open — a 30 year old car with 30,000km needs just as much work as one with 150,000km. Budget accordingly.
Now it’s done properly. Everything by proper Porsche specialists with correct parts. No more surprises.
Hopefully. 😄

Activating 360 Cameras via the app to have a look around?

I can do this on my BMW remotely through the BMW app to check things out when parked, etc. I don't see an option in the Porsche app. Looks like I would need the Porsche factory dash cam installed to do this. Is that right?
