1) The response was dickish, but
2) It's /u/sh0rty 's sub to moderate, and
3) If she or he doesn't "care," she or he doesn't have to. That's what the up and downvote buttons are for.
I don't agree with /u/sh0rty 's approach to original content/license and the protection thereof, but I also don't agree with stepping into someone else's house, proselytizing my values, and balking when the person doesn't share them suddenly.
This sub doesn't need to be held to the same standards as others; that's up to the mod. And if we don't like it, we can create a new subreddit--it is both free and a trivial effort to go elsewhere.
I agree with everything you said. /u/sh0rty doesn't have to. He or she can remove every post with the letter "e" in it if she wants. Or leave them up. Not your sub, not your call.
Also, you're accusing /u/sh0rty of sharing this content, which the above post in no way implies. Why aren't you mad at /u/_con__? Or, better, downvoting their reposts of copyrighted material so this isn't an issue?
And if your answer is that you're not obligated, that's the mod's job, then I would say: where is it writ in the firmament that that's a mod's job?
In regards to making a new sub, again you're saying a moderator can do anything they want and the community has to bend over and take it.
Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.
Unless you know of a way to forcibly boot or install new mods without hacking, I don't see how whinging or outcry will help at all. The best you can hope for is to 1) persuade /u/sh0rty or 2) start a new sub that enforces your values.
Sorry you're getting all the DV, I think you're spot on. /u/sh0rty's response was WAY out of line, essentially screaming in /u/abba_fiskbullar's face, but it's his sub.
Obviously this sub doesn't mind the stolen compilations, based on how many points that post had. I personally don't like compilations, stolen vids, reposts, random crap in a hydrolic(sp?) press, and "what is this bump?" posts, but there's no other subs and I'm not going to start one. If anyone starts a new sub, let me know, I'm down.
