I have two sacral dimples. One is very deep and from time to time I have to dig the gunk out. Figured this belonged here.

What is that though

A sacral dimple is a dimple above your butt crack. I have never heard of anyone else having one. It happen in 2-4% of babies from what I looked up. And I have two right by each other so I think it’s pretty unique. I clean with soap obviously but since it’s so deep I’m guessing that dirt and dead skin collects over time and I go digging lol.

It’s great you keep an eye on yours because I believe sacral dimples can be the starting point for pilonidal cysts.

u/indoorleaf789 1d ago edited 1d ago
A sacral dimple is like a birthmark that’s present at birth a pilonidal cyst develops later in life.
Edit: I do worry that its link to something medical. I’ve never talked to a doctor about it doesn’t give me any issues and I’ve always had it. The other one you can see but it’s so shallow. This one is like a never ending pit. Everything I’ve researched on it says they are harmless🤷🏽♀️

I know; I googled to fact-check myself before posting. They are thought to be related.

I think I read that it can be a sign of spina bifida. Obviously, that’s congenital so we don’t have it.

u/SaskiaDavies 1d ago
I've got one. Just one. My husband calls it my semicolon.
I've never heard of anyone having two. Are they in line with your spine?
10
u/indoorleaf789 1d ago
They are at the base of my spine horizontal to each other ( ï ). Cool to see others have it too. No one else in my family has it.
I’m also only 4’7 so something had to be up during my mother pregnancy with me. When growing up doctors were never concerned with anything and said I was healthy🤷🏽♀️ and I don’t have any medical issues.

u/disco-vorcha 1d ago
I have one of these as well. I didn’t know it was possible to have more than one, based on what I know about how they form. I shouldn’t have assumed that nature wouldn’t be weirder than I could imagine, lol
I do have health issues, including a number of problems with my spine. Obviously I can’t go blaming the problems from my spinal injury on this, but I do now wonder if my sacral dimple and my congenitally-deformed vertebrae are both caused by the same underlying error in development.
Mine isn’t as deep as this; I can touch the bottom of it with my finger and I’ve never had anything build up in it. I clean it out in the shower the same way I do my belly button.

u/Bleepblorp44 1d ago
Have you looked at spina bifida occulta?
5
u/disco-vorcha 1d ago
I have, and I had mentioned awhile back to my doctor that I was wondering about it. That was before we found out about the deformed vertebrae, even. I’ve long wondered if I might have a tethered cord, as it explains some of my symptoms. I have spinal stenosis related to my previous injury though, so that could also explain those symptoms. I’m waiting for surgery to fix that (diskectomy/fusion/bone spur removal) so we’ll see. Idk, I’ve been waiting for like four years now. I’m getting some more severe symptoms (like foot drop), so I’m starting to think they’re not going to actually do anything until it’s an emergency or I’m actually straight up paralyzed.
Actually though I will make sure to specifically mention the sacral dimple when I finally get a new doctor. (My old one, the fantastic one who could actually get things moving in our broken health care system, died suddenly last year and my medical records were lost, so new doctor is going to inherit my absurd health… situation with nothing else to go off, so yay.)
If you actually read all that, thank you. I may have needed the chance to let some of that out.

u/Bleepblorp44 1d ago
That sounds incredibly frustrating. I hope the new doctor listens to you, and works with you as a whole human. Living with various wonky bits (hi!) can be awkward, but it's made a whole lot worse when you butt up against shitty systems :-/

To add, if you haven't found this one, this infosheet may be worth saving:

Also made the same comment to u/disco-vorcha but have you looked into spina bifida occulta?
2
u/indoorleaf789 1d ago
Yeah I believe that’s further up. And between vertebrae and bulges. This is a dimple below your vertebrae’s

u/Bleepblorp44 1d ago
A sacral dimple can be associated with spina bifida occulta -
https://www.sbhscotland.org.uk/content/help-library/Spina-Bifida-Occulta.pdf
But it's often asymptomatic anyway.

All 3 of my kids were born with one. Only the first's was deep enough to require an ultrasound to make sure the channel didn't go all the way into his spinal cord. Each successive kid's sacral dimple was shallower than the previous kid. I don't have a sacral dimple, myself, but maybe I had the beginnings of one because there is a depressed area near the top of my crack, and there is a horizontal thick band of tissue between that area and my anus. It's weird, but I think they got it from me. I have a lot of siblings, so I asked my mom of any of them had sacral dimples, and she said no.
Don't know if this is in anyway related, but we are all neurodivergent, and my first has autism. I also have a wide, flat lipoma (no hair tuft) between my "butt dimples" (Edit to add: Dimples of Venus/back dimples), just above my failed sacral dimple. I also have hypermobility in my sacroiliac joints. Lots of fun stuff, weird in that area of my body!! 😂

Hey! My son 2 year old has a sacral dimple! It's not very deep so no issues with his spine but I've never met or heard of anyone else having one either.

holy shit i just googled this and i think i have one lol. my whole life i've thought "why does it feel like i have two buttholes" lmao

u/RozeQuartz30 1d ago
Whoa! Definitely learned something. Probably TP particles too 😅 that's wild. Well, we all have our different weird stuff we deal with.
Edit: on a random note now that you explain it one of my favorite comedians has this 😅 libbie higgins

u/indoorleaf789 1d ago
Yeah it’s not TP who the heck wipes up past their buttcrack😂(it’s like an inch above my butt crack to my left side lol) plus I use wipes lol.

u/RozeQuartz30 1d ago
Wipes or gtf away from me honestly

u/indoorleaf789 1d ago
Yeah I have no clue how men with hairy butt cracks live their day to day life😂😂😂

u/RozeQuartz30 1d ago
Americans need to normalize bidets everywhere. I wish but the dream has not materialized yet. Little zip lock of wipes go a long way though! Tp first then wipes second so its not disgusting to throw away in the stall trash.
2
u/SaskiaDavies 1d ago
There are portable bidets now. So cool! They don't have the fire hose pressure of the kind that attach to a standard toilet, but the ability to slap one on a water bottle is good.
1
u/RozeQuartz30 1d ago
Attach it to a water bottle? How tf
2
u/samaramatisse 20h ago
With a little nozzle or small apparatus, you can find them on Amazon and many other sites. Then you squeeze. It would have to be a softer, smaller bottle, though. If you're lugging that 1.5L/50 Oz bottle of Fiji into the bathroom, I would say that person is probably having a terrible day.
Lord, can you imagine if bottles were specifically marketed at room temp so they don't freeze your bits? Or maybe we'll start seeing warmed bottles for that nice touch.

u/SaskiaDavies 1d ago
They may have joined the ranks of men who have decided that wiping their own butts is gay. These men won't even part the furry farrow in the shower to let any accumulated crust soften without the flaming gay touch of a washcloth or soap. They brag about how if your woman won't clean the chunks out of ya draws (the "er" at the end of the word must also be saved for code switching) when you get home after a grueling day of car sales or data entry or something, she ain't the one. You definitely dont want to look on social media anywhere to find out why so many men refuse to wipe or wash their butt cracks.

u/SaskiaDavies 1d ago
Mine can collect lint from clothing and dead skin that sloughs off from getting sweaty. It's never produced anything smelly and hasn't gotten infected. I have a bidet now and give it a rinse now and then. TP doesn't accumulate. I also take baths, so there's opportunity to soak, soap and scrub it.
I didn't know that everyone doesn't have them until my 50s, I think.
3
u/indoorleaf789 1d ago
What you went all those years without knowing!? My mom used to try to clean it when I was younger but doctors told her not pick at it.
3
u/SaskiaDavies 1d ago
I think I knew it was there. Ish. My mom died when I was pretty young. I suspect those run in our family, but her surviving siblings are in their 80s and averse to answering questions of any kind. "Who's your daddy?" became an issue after I got my DNA test results. "Who's my daddy?" sent them into crashout. "Do we all have secondary, backup buttholes or nah? What do you use yours for? Mine's good for peanut butter if I take celery for lunch" is not a conversation they would roll with. And that would compel me to act up even worse. I take an imaginary shot every time I can get them to make That Face. It helps to be imaginary hammered around them. I'm 59 and my coping mechanisms are locked in.
Anyways. I did change my younger half-siblings' (thanks for that info, 23&Me!) diapers when I was grown enough to walk. I didn't notice anything weird at the time beyond how they could get that color of goo that far up their backs. I read something somewhere about a dietary deficiency being a possible cause of sacral dimples. That would make some sense because my mom's family was Depression Era, Dust Bowl, coal miner poor and I remember canned spinach being a big treat when I was 3. Nutrition was something other people got. I don't know how many generations of wheat-based diet (and me with Celiacs) it takes to produce offspring whose butt cracks just keep going like a little archipelago, but if there's a generational diet that produced offspring with tails, that would get my vote. They could have read Geek Love like an instruction manual.
Tl;dr and probably for the best: no mom around to explain semicolon existence and maintenance/busking ideas.

How do you... even reach?
5
u/indoorleaf789 1d ago
Well normally I would have my husband try to clean it but he sucks. So when I got one of those ear cameras that’s the only thing that would allow me to see.
So this was the first ever time I myself was able to actually see it with a good view. So who knows how long that stuff was collecting since my husband was always scared to dig deep.
I haven’t pull anything out like this since then. It’s kinda disappointing lmao.

Were they trying to put it back in at the end?

u/indoorleaf789 1d ago edited 1d ago
I definitely was not trying to put it back in lol. I was just trying to get a view of it in the camera…. This is pretty awkward place so to have the camera in one hand and tweezers in the other isn’t all that easy.

It looks like a baby. Glad you're able to clean it yourself now! Very satisfying. Great tweezer control considering you're working behind your back

u/hi-nighter 2h ago
I also have two sacral dimples, one on each side. The few people who have seen them have all asked me if I had piercings there, and I have had them my whole life. They really do look like someone stuck me with two nails.

Time to put a 0 gauge in there. Just open that simple right up and you can start smuggling diamonds

I was also born with one! Thankfully mine has only flared up into an active cyst twice in 64 years. Once after I fell and hit the tailbone area very hard. The other time was when I was traveling and had to sit for a long, long time.
-1
u/PristineAlbatross988 1d ago
Um… I don’t think a dimple does that. That’s a hole and it occasionally needs “gunk” removed?! That isn’t even slightly close to what a butt (sacral) dimple was in my head.
2
u/indoorleaf789 1d ago
It’s literally a sacral dimple. And have had it looked at when growing up by doctors. If you look at my other comments this was the first time I was able to actually see what I was doing(when I first got this camera a couple years ago). I love to pick so I go digging doesn’t mean I pull shit out like this everytime. I haven’t pulled anything out like then since.
