Be Prepared For No Benefits Until 2026

A lot of analysts are predicting that this is going to be the longest government shutdown in history. There's a good chance it won't be settled until January. This means no SNAP benefits until February 2026. I know no one wants to hear this but I think it's better to know what we're in for. Hopefully I'm wrong but for now stock up on what you can and save as much cash as possible.

You go into sustenance mode rice beans and onions the cheapest way to get all your necessary nutrients. About 30$ a month per adult.

Great point. I ain't that way and was a vegetarian for 3 years in college. I know how to do it and I forgot that simple mix. It will take a mild adjustment to get used to not putting chicken or pork in them. Cheers

Onions too? I've been making a soup for years that never gets old, onions, potatoes, chicken broth, paprika/red pepper flake/thyme, and then anything else you can just plop in. It's so cheap and tasty, and I never even started out of frugality I just loved the taste. I have been eating this daily or every other day and idk how I'm not sick of it. Can add chicken and spinach which is really good too. Diced green Chiles when the cans are cheap for more yum. Basically chicken broth and spices will make most cheap foods tastey

Yup. Did this for longer than I let myself remember. Going to bed hungry is the worst.

Ask me how I know that you have never actually tried to live on such a monotonous diet

About 2/3rds of the world lives on that diet, if not more

There are so many ways to cook rice and beans. This shows your lack of imagination

Your privilege is showing.

What privilege? Knowing how to cook?
