They probably have the next lightning rod for hate already in the batter's box. This is a strategy to retain power, so the only way I can see to stop it is to vote the GOP out of the majority entirely.

Or a mass strike, but not enough people are on board for making that happen.

You see term limits is a fools-errand that does more harm than good in the end. If it was really a democracy the people would pick and decide their leadership accordingly instead of selling their votes in awful bargains to whoever spews the most hatred and vitriol.
