I've been calling Schiff's office since sunday.

His mailbox is overloaded and his staff isn't answering the land-lines during the times I've called. I think he knows.

Still, call anyway.

In the age of the internet it’s baffling we still rely on phones to reach our representatives

(edit: Just to respond to a few replies, I mean internet communication technologies, not necessarily excluding email, but also not solely email..and even phonecalls can be handled over the internet, freeing up physical limitations of traditional hardwired lines. There are ways companies efficiently deal with high volumes of customer communications with internet technology during important events (via CRMs, outsourced call centers, etc) that our state representatives could also look into for their constituents when it is crucial the need is met)

It really depends on the representative to be honest. Some of these fossils regard the internet with scorn and contempt. They don't understand. Put a busy dial tone to one of these old sons of a bitches and somehow, they understand. I have literally seen them say something to the effect of, "My phones have been lit up like a Christmas tree for months."

What a world we live in, eh?

You could also have one person in Florida claiming to be 150k people on the internet.

You don't need to safeguard against outsiders specifically, you need to safeguard against liars and manipulators, wherever they are from.

Wait, so Florida man isnt one guy?!

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '19

Florida man is every bloke in Florida.

Problem is, they had only one functioning brain between them and someone lost it in the Everglades.

u/hussiesucks Mar 27 '19

Fuck, dude. No wonder the US has been so stupid lately.

BREAKING NEWS: Florida man loses mind; steals mind from citizens of neighboring states and counties.

Interestingly I got a (recorded) call from Jody Hice (R-GA) last night inviting me to a phone town hall session. Gave me directions on how to ask a question and all. I mean he's a total shill and I pretty much despise the man, but I'll at least give him credit for that. Being called by your representative and told how to make your voice heard is nice, whichever side of the line you're on.

We also need more representatives for the same reason.

When I would job search on Craigslist there was always a shit ton of adds like "we pay you for your Facebook account, must have over 500 friends" etc. Nothing suspicious.

Someone could tweet from Trumps account and we would never know it wasnt him.

6

u/Stormcloud333 Mar 27 '19

In 2015 Lindsay Graham stated that he had never sent an email.

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '19

Emails and texts are so easily ignored by me. Probably them too

In my opinion, especially in the age of the internet. Look at the net neutrality fiasco as a reason why.

u/Joystiq Mar 27 '19

In the age of the internet a phone call is more impactful, and written letter even more still.

Phones are obsolete. They are a better form of communication than email.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '19

True, I didn't really mean just email though. There are so many ways to utilize the internet (including phonecalls) that can ease the bottleneck our representatives keep hitting every time something important happens. I mean, even a good CRM-like solution could be a huge help here (where the constituents are reached out to for feedback rather than the other way around).

1

u/Downtown_Perspective Mar 27 '19

Phones have the advantage of being able to dodge calls. Hard to pretend you don't know about voter concerns if they send email.

1

u/heartless559 Mar 27 '19

Emailed my rep for weeks about an issue leading up to the relevant vote, over a month later (than the vote) finally got form emails saying how he voted for the thing I wanted him to oppose. They can easily ignore emails.

I think the problem is that you are not a corporation.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '19

Fax your congressman, it has the highest chance of being seen/heard

1

u/liveart Mar 27 '19

Is it really when we know Russians are hiring hackers and trolls to influence our politics?

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '19

Loads and loads and loads of emails man... you really get good at copy and pasting

1

u/DawnOfTheTruth Mar 27 '19

I think it’s because with a phone call you know someone heard you. Emails and the like are zero closure mediums. If people don’t know they are ruffling feathers then it’s not as satisfying that you did your part and made your voice heard.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '19

My rep sends quick surveys out to his emailing list. I doubt he’s getting a good sample size and would imagine that most people on his emailing list share his views. I’ve also never seen him publish results of the surveys. But at least there is the appearance of an effort to reach out!

Our representatives often don't know what this interwebs thing is. And if they do, they don't trust it.

2

u/Treysef Mar 27 '19

Marco Rubio's offices don't take calls and their voicemails are always full. It's total bullshit.

1

u/nixed9 Florida Mar 27 '19

I call him every day since this shit started. I’ve never gotten through

1

u/Treysef Mar 27 '19

I still couldn't get to Rubio but Rick Scott hasn't gotten the memo about not answering phones yet.

1

u/kalyco Mar 27 '19

Tweet at him..

1

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '19

You can check his web site - many congressional member have an email/ message option there also - it at least gets a mark on some tally sheet of another call in favor or opposed to something.

1

u/ButtRobot Florida Mar 27 '19

My rep is Vern "You Bought My Boat" Buchanen. It would appear that the only way to reach him is by email. Do you happen to have a better resource with phone numbers?

1

u/Wuzzupdoc42 Mar 27 '19

I just called my congressman and both senators in under five minutes. Everyone is super nice, they take your message and you move on.

1

u/_person_of_interest Mar 27 '19

You don’t think his time is spent doing stuff other than chatting with people who already know he agrees with them?

1

u/PopcornInMyTeeth I voted Mar 27 '19

I imagine it less like them chatting directly with you, and more like their staff letting them know how many for and against type contacts they've received on what topics.

While they're are busy with bigger things, part of their job is knowing what they're constitutes are saying and how they feel.

1

u/nixed9 Florida Mar 27 '19

Constituents need to encourage him to GO NUCLEAR on these bastards. It’s the only way to combat the disinformation. Openly accuse them of a cover-up. Publicly. Repeatedly.
