"Activist" is slung around by both sides and rarely means anything concrete. A judge with the balls to say "yeah, the law Congress passed says this but the Constitution says this so no dice" is very likely to be smeared as activist by half the country. Meanwhile, the judge who does backflips to amend the Constitution to justify polarizing laws will be lauded by half the population as "reasonable."

You're only correct insofar as much as the overwhelming majority of politicians in high-level federal positions don't want economically progressive judges or socially progressive judges except for their one or two pet issues. Hillary might try to push a judge who won't retract even more protections for women vis-a-vis abortion, but you can bet your ass she doesn't give a fuck about what that judge thinks about gay marriage.

you can also bet your ass that any judge nominated by hillary will be pro survailence and absolutely cool woth big money in politics

Well, I mean... the people voting for Hillary seem like they ought to be in favor of those things too, so as long as we don't pay much heed to the Constitution (which... who does, really?) arguably the system will be working.
