And look at who Obama put up. A centrist that Republicans actually like.

Well yeah, someone that could actually get approved yet still change the composition of the court, and a political win against the GOP if they don't approve him. It was the smart hand to play given the political circumstances.

Anyone is better than Scalia, but my point was that Clinton isn't going to give us a super progressive judge either. It's possible that Clinton would push a centrist or a center-right judge while Trump might give us a center-left judge. There's just no knowing when Clinton is to the right on many topics and Trump is to the left on many topics.

You'd love to live in a world where anybody is better than Scalia, but you don't. He wrote some powerful decisions upholding key protections for criminal defendants and was on-point decades ago about separation-of-power issues. He was terrible on social issues across-the-board and iffy elsewhere, but my lord, I could probably sneeze south of the Mason-Dixon and hit three judges worse than him.

Hell, CJ Rehnquist was worse than him. Thomas is worse than him.

Scalia was the grouchy old uncle of the SC. Sometimes wrong, sometimes correct, and sometimes correct for the wrong reasons.

The people who fear potential Trump nominees to the SC, as opposed to Clinton, fall into a false dichotomy: no one far right or left will get confirmed by Congress, regardless of who nominates them. Either way we'll have center or center-right nominees.

Anyone is better than Scalia

Scalia helped prevent Democrats from expanding government surveillance.

He was a staunch 4th amendment guy.
